Does anyone else think? Side grills....

So this is a very rough chop but I feel like the side grills need a little something on the 1M rather than just an indentation Haters are gonna hate but I think it would add a nice touch of aggressiveness to the side of the 1M.

Before and After

and like I said this a very rough chop haha

Any photo shopped pics with a full profile of the car? I think that would help us judge it better.

Yeah looks like an unfinished job by BMW. Other than that though, looks pretty good IMHO.

Find a good pic for me to do it on. It's a very subtle change so any side/front shots you probably wouldnt be able to see it.

How do you plan on doing it? Having a body shop take the fenders off cut an opening and insert some custom cut honeycomb grid .....I am very interested!

Im cutting it out myself. I did the diffuser when I got the 135, it doesnt look much different than that. You can find my DIY on this forum for that (around may/june 2008)

I cant speculate beyond that until I actually see the fender then I can plan a strategy. The only questionable part is the outside edge. The diffuser has a lip all the way around.

well and the diffuser is cheapy plastic haha. The fender is alluminum....and you can replace the diffuser no problem if you mess up. I dont know how easy it would be to get a new fender for the much sought after 1M. If you do it and it looks decent I will give you mad props just for having the balls to cut into your fender

Forget about cutting it out...what about just paint it flat black or something to match the trim?

I agree they should serve some purpose...would have been nice to see BMW design some type of vent here to do something to go along with all the fancy air curtain and aero technology they claim to have this thing.

I assume the crease is there for additional fender rigidity given the broadened hips on the 1M.

that might help with removing air from the tire well, but might throw up dirt and debris as a result. unless its not functional, either way that looks pretty cool

What about doing rear wheel cutouts as well? I always thought German cars were built for function, not just looks.

I like the look, but I don't think it should be Functional for two reasons.

1. This would most likely disrupt the Air Curtain around the front wheels.
2. Constant flow of dirt, dust and road debris down the sides of the car.

I do like the looks of it though. Reminds me of this early 1M rendering.
