Wanted - Canon Stuff

Hi guys,

As some of you may recall I got a Canon 550d for Christmas and am just using the standard 18-55 lens. My initial reaction is that it's doing quite a good job but feel a little more 'zoom' would be nice and people say you really need a couple more lenses to make the most of the camera.

If anyone has any decent kit to go with my camera gathering dust then I'm happy to consider taking these off your hands.

I don't really want a 10 year old lens or anything like that, but anything modern (which has been perhaps duplicated), lightly used and still in perfect order, I'd be interested.

Things top of my list would be -:
* Lens with better zoom
* Wide lens
* Perhaps a decent tripod (though this can be heavy so uneconomical to post)

Cheers.

I've just upgraded from my 1000d to a 550d its a amazing camera! When are we going to see some of your shots Rog? Have you got an account on Flickr?

I've got nothing to sell at the minute but i have got a sigma 50-200 zoom which is brilliant and its only around £180 new.

http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/prod1218.html

I probably use my wide angle lens the most which is a tamron 10-24mm and thats £370 new from amazon.co.uk

http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/prod1390.html

another good lens is the canon 50mm 1.8 EF II its a prime lens so fixed at 50mm but the images you get from it are excellent and wait for it...£89 new, its a great portrait lens.

Depends how much you want to spend really a good website to compare prices is the camerapricebuster.co.uk

Yeah, those are the types of lenses I'm leaning towards (especially the first two), but I'm torn between spending money on my camera or a new exhaust at present (not that I've got any money ).

I posted one shot on the photography thread last week I think but was just me hanging out of a hotel window on full auto setting .

I scanned over '-Paul-'s photos earlier on flickr and they are amazing. The one thing that struck me is that I don't seem to go to such picturesque places - photos inside Wacky-Warehouse anyone .

If you or anyone you know is planning a trip to HK, you can buy lenses there for about 60% the UK cost.

The lenses do seem quite reasonable actually which surprises me somewhat. I took some shots the other evening of my motor, I'll posted a couple up in this thread seeing as we're talking about it...

Checked out your flickr account a few weeks ago (sorry, should have complimented you too ) - also, some great shots.

Here you go (again, full auto mode... )...

Thinking about it, I should try to get some close-ups of the lights, they're quite a piece of engineering that you can't quite see on these shots.

Lovely car!

I've recently got into photography too though mines is a Canon 450d with the kit lens. I Recently added a 50mm f1.8 and 55-250mm lenses, imho these are great starter lenses and offer great value for money.

My favorite has to be the 50mm, great for learning about depth of field and using light etc

Ha ha, everyone comments on the bins, bloody stupid things, we can't get down the side of our house (extension right to the border) so they live there. Seems we get a new colour bin every 6 months .

I'll probably update my other car thread with my experiences with the motor...

I've just realised that I ordered a neck-strap last week online from Amazon; just checked the box and there's one in there, might be returning it .

For used Canon stuff, the Talk Photography site is a good one although I think you may need to have a 100 posts to start 'wheeling and dealing'.

Failing that, there is a guy on there called Ian Kerr (trade seller / ebay seller) who may do you some good deals. I bought my 50mm f1.4 prime off him for around £270 last year.

Failing that again, you could take a 'chance' with customs and order from One Stop Digital, a HK based company. If you do, be sure to barter them down a bit with their price match option...

Roger, this canon lens is excellent 70-200 F4 IS. Had this lens for about a month and the results are outstanding. Can be picked up for around £500

Thanks Paul, I was checking that site out earlier, but you've now sent my head into a spin with all those options, looks like I've got a load of research to do.

Yup, very handy though - esp on a tele lens

If you've not been on, dpreview.com is an excellent site

This is also very useful to compare lenses. You can tell it what camera you have and then see which lens are the best on it.

I just bought this zoom lens for my EOS 550D on Wednesday http://www.comet.co.uk/p/Camera-Lens...a-Lense/512338

I am really happy with it, no image stabilisation though
