Got rear-ended this weekend... :-(

A dubious distinction... Probably the first F25 to enter a body shop from non-factory-related causes.

Stopped at a yield sign while making a right turn, to let a car pass by and WHAM. Not a hard hit, but a hit, none the less to the driver's side rear, just where the exhaust pipes are. No air bag deployment, no injuries.

Yes, the other car sustained much more damage than I did. I was actually able to pop out the plastic pieces, so one would have to look close to see it was damaged.

However, the exhaust system got bent up and was torn off the rear left bushing, leaving it hanging a bit. Got out a wire hanger that night and did the quick band-aid. Found an open muffler shop on Sunday, who straightened out the muffler and actually had a replacement bushing that fit. This will keep things in order until I bring it to the BMW shop later this week.

So, obviously this sucks. , but its only plastic and metal. Come to think of it, it is mostly plastic!

Everything else, including the park distance control and rear view cameras work fine.

Hopefully the car that hit you is insured and that the damage is just superficial.

Feel for you...

Picked my Black Sapphire 28i up exactly six days ago and just spotted a bit of a scuff on the front fender / headlamp. I am hoping it is just a bit of plastic residue from a shopping cart or something, but not overly optimistic.

Hope the body shop gets you sorted out.

Glad you are ok and hopefully the damage is minimal. The first car I ever owned was backed into on day 19 of ownership.

Thank you Lola_Falana. Yes, the other vehicle was, thankfully, insured. Now as for our friend in Belgium, I have attached some pics that are not that spectacular, as everything popped back out nicely.

First picture shows my wire hanger job. Love getting under the car in a parking lot when it is 95 degrees F Second shows the guy I found in downtown San Antonio at 9:00AM on a Sunday to do a better repair. Note the position of the tailpipe and muffler. He had to heat up the exhaust system with a welding torch to bend it back in place. Glad I found this place as I had to drive 400 miles back home later that day. Third picture is what it looks like now - Tailpipes are where they belong, with a bunch of scratched-up plastic body parts.

The last picture is the reason I was in San Antonio (picking up a rescue dog), and since you are from Belgium, I would assume that you would recognize the breed.

Cheers

Of course I know the breed, bouvier des Flanders.
And Flanders is the northern part of Belgium where I live.

Love the Bouvier des Flandres (he/she looks happy), hate the damage. Geesh, looks like they hit it pretty hard. I am sorry.

Yep, he is happy because has a new home. The X3 really was not hit too hard, but enough to smash up the plastic bumper cover and bend the exhaust system.

Was at the body shop today, and the parts are already on order. They will actually paint them before I bring my car in, so the burden will be minimal.

I actually feel fortunate. There was hail here in North Texas last night and there were cars newer than mine at the body shop that looked like they were attacked with a ball-peen hammer.
