What are the gear change options for the E92

I have been looking around here to see about changing my rear end gears. what does the 6mt come with in a 07 e92? i thought it was about a 2.91 or a 3.08.

Can you swap these gears to a 3.46 or a 3.91? if so can you post a link up for me to look into it, i want to get a LSD and swap gears at the same time

3.08 for the 6MT. Yes, you can put 3.46 in from the auto. Your best advice would come from Harold at HP Autowerks. He offers both Quaife and Wavetrac solutions.

Will the 3.46 bolt right in my car with no Mods? Are you saying swapping the gears from the AT or the entire 3rd member unit?

my car was a 02/2007 build date so the wavetrack would go right in it

EDIT: i can get the 3.46 assembly for 600 bucks from a wrecked 335i with a AT. seems to me for about 2k i could have LSD unit with 3.46 gears FTW. That would be a nice kick in the pants with that gear change.

Is that just another way of saying that you want LSD?

You should PM HPAutowerks for a price on both Quaife and WaveTrac. Since you probably have a bolted diff (lucky) your cost should be lower than someone like me that had welded in my 4/07 build 6MT. When you ask, give them your VIN just to make sure you are bolted.

I'm talking about ordering a bolt-in LSD with the 3.46 gearing.

I would like to get the 3.46 gearing, but its almost twice the cost of an LSD with the 3.08. Looks like I'm going to "settle" for the 3.08. Now its just a matter of Harold having the time to do it. I called a couple of weeks ago to make an appointment and hope to get it done in the next 2-3 weeks. I'm going on a road trip to Yellowstone and Glacier National parks with my son, and want to do it before I leave.

3.08 is what comes on the 6 M/T cars. You can swap for a 3.46 for quicker acceleration. 3.91 will be a bit much and making 1st and 2nd gear less useful. We can build a complete 3.46 with either a Quaife, Wavetrac or a clutch type full racing LSD.
