Wheel cleaning advice
The wheels on my wife's car have not been thoroughly cleaned in a long while.
I get to it today using Autoglym Wheel cleaner. Sprayed it on, waited a minute and scrubbed it using soap and water. Had to repeat it once more as it was filthy. I must say though that the foam doesnt really stick to the rim but rather simply runs down the wheel. Most of the yellowing hard to remove coloring seems to have come off. However I am still left with many small black spots on the rim. Any suggestions as to whether there is an easy way to remove the black spots or should i get a harder toothbrush and expect to use some old fashioned elbow grease? Is there an alternate wheel cleaner I should try? I have used up almost an entire bottle of the cleaner and at $12 a bottle, it is pretty expensive. Thx

Definitely try some clay. You may also want to try Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover - it's available OTC almost everywhere and isn't expensive.

If it's pitting or other damage to the finish of the wheel, then no amount of product will fix it. The wheels would need to be refinished. Can you post up a picture or two so we can take a look? Also, maybe mods could move this to the detailing section?

I know EXACTLY what u r talking about..i use mothers wax/cleaner..it comes right off..w no effort..i would avoid using wheel cleaners as they have chemicals which affect the finish of the wheel over time..soap, and water..wax/cleaner.. and the absolute key is to clean your wheels OFTEN.

Here's a pic of what it looks like after I have cleaned it twice.
I have not tried powerwashing as yet so I'll do that this weekend along with the wax/cleaner as some of you have suggested.

Clay and tar remover should remove that with no problem.
