How would that work - would this be for one size/brand only? I was going to get some ordered in August when the car arrives but the 320d M Sport has different widths on the front and back?

I'd be keen for this. Even if it's only the tyres? Although some way of getting the £1400 BMW want to 17" set-up would be great. Maybe Anneka could sort something out?

I am not sure how this going to work but if we manage to get 5-6 people then we can approch some vendors and ask them what sort of discount we can get.
I hope anyone with much more knowledge about Group buy/Vendor would come along and guide us in the right direction. |

Not sure what alloys/tyres bmw offer for £1400 but if you manage to source a set of used oem 17" alloys then even with the best winter tyres, it wouldnt cost over £800-£900 max.

Well if we manage to get a discount then that would be for all sizes.

Guys,I've been involved in attempts at tyre group buys before on various forums via companies such as Camskill etc with 30 people being interested.
I don't think that the profit margin is that great for companies to warrant them discounting prices on group buys. When I was looking for some vredestein wintracs last year, it seems that most distributers won't have any stock until later in the year. They then get a job lot and sell from around September, starting at a reasonable price but the prices seem to change on a daily basis-increasing as the weather fluctuates! I hope I'm wrong in your case and best of luck with your efforts but it might be better to try and buy some second hand wheel and tyre packages from eBay on an individual basis. |

I did a lot of research and bought my vredesteins through mytyres.com as they were the cheapest and were a reliable source for winter tyres.
I put these on a set of 8j oem mv3's that I sourced from two different owners-these are now bagged and waiting for the cacky weather. They came from Germany in a few days and were a sound investment. They didn't put a foot wrong and I did try!!! If you buy new,put a couple of hundred miles on them to scrub them in-preferably as the temperature dips but before the snow or ice hits. |

As an aside but related to the topic of winter tyres, can you run 8Js all round? I know the standard setup is 8J front and 8.5J rear, but for the sake of being able to buy a set of cheaper non-oem alloys to stick me winter rubbers on could I get 4 8Js or 4 8.5Js all the way round?

Yeah I suppose 8J is narrower than 8.5J and therefore slightly better for winter use. That's good to know. Means I don't need to definitely get BMW alloys. Which given they'll only be on for 3-4 months and are only going to get covered in a load of salt and grime anyway, I think I'd rather have the cash in my pocket or put the extra on better tyres!
