Lightbulb SOUNDS IN E90!! Suggestions Please

Guys,

Been reading ALOT since I joined and now I'm in split minds!

On one hand is the Alpine Hi-Fi Upgrade carried out by BMW themselves..
On the other, I can fit in an aftermarket Double Din, sub and amps, and if I do this, then I'd need tweeters to balance the sounds.. will this mean new a pillars?..

Since getting this baby I am trying not to lose the OEM look in side, however, will the Alpine Hi-Fi Upgrade be enough to satisfy.. who can comment? If I go for that, can I still connect my Ipod, Subs and Amp??

I want some bass and can utilise my subs, however, when i put in the double 10" sub box in the boot, I found it was a tad bit wider, therefore not sitting in flush between the two lips that run adjacent to each other..(open the boot you'll know what I'm talking about). What are the alternatives now?

Is there anybody out there to guide me please? In summary..

2 options..

1. Go for OEM Alpine Hi Fi Upgrade - if so, can i connect subs and amp for the extra bass?

OR..

2. Install in my Double Din Pioneer P80BT, Subs, Amp - can get this done locally for under £200 which is a great deal! However.. will want tweeters to go with it.. does it require new a pillars?

Advice appreciated, thanks

Or there's option 3 - Install your own amp and front door speakers like I did. Takes the same time to install, costs half as much and you'd be hard pushed to tell it's not Alpine gear.

Care to expand on that? I'd be interested to know what you did and how it sounds

agreed on the above.. I'm most likely going to find out today what my options are from visiting some ICE specialists around the area..if it makes sense fit the sub woofers in using custom fibre glass housing or something, then be it so..

RE: muffking's comment, so you installed your own amp and door speakers, did you change your headunit... or install subs? what about tweeters?

What makes sense, keeping the OEM H/U and getting that upgraded (for the sake of OEM looks) and if so, is there possibility of installing subs/amps ... OR..
replacing the OEM H/U with an aftermarket one and the the subs n amp etc...

What did u guys do?

dension icelink or intravee in order to keep OEM hu but still have an amped setup.

I fitted tweeters in the stock 4" speaker mount and fitted speakers in a jenhert custom door card.

You just need to speak to Andy like I said before He knows his stuff very well

Could you not retro fit the Logic7 ? I'm assuming it would be cheaper than the Alpine upgrade and IMO it's just as good.

im so confused .. just not sure what to do!! grrr I am after a punch kicky bass .. but something that should be heard- if ya know what i mean. I think I'll go for the under seats subs (sticking with OEM H/U).. unless someone can suggest anything else...

My only reservation going with my current Double Din H/U is that its not the BEST H/U to go for as its not DVD nor Navi..and using that will mean losing the OEM look.. does anybody have a Pioneer P80BT installed in their E90?

Don't know what to go for

Reading into your comments it's difficult to work out what the best solution for you actually is as it's a subjective question. In reality I'm never gonna win any sound off's with my base, but it will still shake the car up.

In answer to yours and Pauls question abou my install, I found a DIY guide on the forum somewhere explaining how the front headunit outputs split undet the front seats for the door speakers and under seat subs. I then fed these into HiLo RCA converters to feed into a pair of 2 channel amps, one feeding speaker wires back to the subs and one feeding back to the wires for the front door speakers. You could use a 4 channel amp, but I chose 2 levels of power using 2 amps, low for the doors & higher for the subs. All that was then to do was change the font door speakers for some nice 5.25" Pioneer coaxial speakers with the tweters built in.

All-in I bought:-
Two 2-channel amps,
Two 5.25" Pioneer door speakers,
Around 8m of speaker cable,
Around 3m RCA leads,
Two HiLow RCA converters.

Total cost, under £150. My theory being I just want good loud music, without spoiling the look of the car or spending a fortune on something that will depreciate anyway.
