2 months in -traded 328 for 335 review
Well yesterday my wifes 5 was due for service so I received a 328 as a loaner. Driving the 328 again prompted me to write a quick review.
Earlier this spring, I traded my 08 328 E90 for an '11 335 E90. 328 - Sparkling Graphite with Black, Sport, Xenon, BT, Auto. 335 - Alpine White with Saddle and Anthracite, M sport, Premium, HK, PDC, Auto, Shades Sirius, BT, Nav. In short, the 335 is a lot more car - almost completely loaded as far as I can tell. The msrp difference between the two was substantial 55 vs 41. The loaner experience reminded me what a great car the 328 is. The engine is smooth and fantastic, power I would call competent, and the '11s look great with the new rims and hood. In comparison, I would call my 335 almost devilish. It has a throaty growl and is nothing short of a rocket. Some say there is only a 70 hp difference. That 70 hp feels like a lot more... In short, the driving experience of the two cars is completely different. They both have their merits. The 328 is fun, balanced, and sporty. The 335 is aggressive, and heart pumping at times. That said, to sum it up, I used to enjoy taking my wifes 528 at times when driving the 328 - no more. I've had a smile on my face eveerytime Ive driven the 335 and won't trade at all! Yea, the gas mileage sucks, and it costs more. In the end, who cares - it's worth it!

My experience has been that my 335i yielded better mileage than the 328 loaners that I've had, and I've had them twice for nearly 2 weeks. Granted my 335i is RWD and 6-man, and the 328's were always x-drive autos.

I was driving another car recently for a while....its much better than the 335 and double the price, so its not a legit comparison but...
What annoys me about about the 335i is the forced induction with 6mt...I don't care what anyone says, its simply not as responsive as a naturally aspirated M3 or Porsche 911 engine...nor is it as responsive as the 328's engine. I have a 335 and the 328i remains the best BMW I have ever driven (on a test drive...just so responsive). My only issue: underpowered. I wish the 335i had Porsche's V6 from the panamera, its not as butter smooth, but is WAY more responsive, and generates 80% of its torque down low...very similar to the 335i...and it has 300 hp 300 torque like the 335 really hate forced induction. never gonna get a forced induction motor again unless I get PDK/automatic. Turbos are not for drivers. or people with 6MT. |

xDrive also steals a few MPG. And the N54/N55 is effortless when driven at a casual pace. The N52 really isn't strained, but added torque makes casual driving easy on the engine.

Mileage of the N54 is good at highway speed or a bit above.
My wifes 320 (yes, we get them in Europe) gets about the same Mpg at highway speeds. I can't feel any bigger difference between those two cars if we don't take into account the acceleration, perhaps because my wife is on 19 inch with 30 height tires. For me, a 320 feels like the 335, only in limp mode. Sure, there are some minor differences while taking turns, but they are minor. |

My 328 didn't feel slow with a 6MT. Not a rocket, but able to get going a lot faster than many other cars.
When I got a 335 6 MT it felt like a rocket in comparison. Guess it all depends on perspective. |

Maybe you should have gotten the Camaro or Corvette instead of your 335. Have you tried winding it out (in a safe environment) to see how it handles? Overall balance in power and handling is what differentiates a sports car from a sporty car, not just speed and the sense of aggressiveness. What good is all the power in the world if the chassis can't handle it? Just sayin'

I've had 328s as a loaner a few times... its a well composed car. You can go from 328 to 335 but going from 335 to 328 is almost impossible.
btw i drove 400hp camaro a month or so ago... ride is no where near as composed as a stock 335. I was happy to get back in my bimmer. |

Lol its soo sad how people with 335's think a 328 is slow. a 328 is honestly not slow by any means. If the driver is fast, and knows what hes doing, he can have more fun in a 328 then a jackwagon in a 335.
