I didn't know it was possible to lock my keys in my car with comfort access
I was carrying things in from outside..and realized i've left my key fob (bought the car used, only have one) on the passenger seat...and the doors are locked.
I can't call BMW assist because my warranty has expired. Any suggestions? I didn't know this was even possible with comfort access. |

Do you pay for BMW Assist? Has nothing to do with warranty or not. I'd rather have BMW Assist unlock my door electronically than some locksmith who may damage something.

BMW won't even help and bill you? I would think that they can do something remotely, but you may have to pony up $ and call the dealer. See if they have anything. I'm not sure if AAA or the sheriff could get in by getting inside the lock from the door/window weather stripping. Good luck..
I had only one key with my car when I got it. It cost me $400 to get one from the dealer and another $100 to program it. |

I guess I'm an idiot...but I didn't realize that coverage expired when my warranty expired a couple of months ago. |

She said she could send someone out for $119 to open it. Turns out that I can pay for a year of coverage from AAA for $65 and be immediately eligible...and have a year of coverage for everything else going forward. Might be the better option. I just didn't realize the keys would lock themselves in with comfort access. |

How did you lock the doors in the first place. Did you manually push down the lock?

This should work unless the battery in remote is dead, no?

I just repeated your scenario & locked myself out too! Pulling the handles doesn't work or trying the trunk. My fob is simply sitting in the passenger seat. Luckily my spare is in the safe & will need to use it after breakfast.

^ I used my fob to lock the door & tossed it back in the seat. I've locked the doors before by going out the passenger door, when I didn't have a key.

You cannot lock your fob in the *trunk* with a CA-equipped car (sensors in the trunk detect the fob and keep it from locking), but you *can* lock your fob inside the passenger compartment. I've done this myself. It's from a safety and security standpoint. Think about this scenario: Your wife/girlfriend is in a bad part of town, parked, sitting waiting for a friend to get out of work and she wants to keep the doors locked until her friend comes out of the building. If you couldn't lock the fob inside the car, then there would be no way for her to lock the car while she was sitting inside it. And we all know you can, in fact, lock the doors while you are sitting inside it with your fob in your pocket.

In your scenario, the passenger is inside the car, so you should be able to lock the doors, even if the fob is in the car.
The point is how does it make sense to let you lock the doors from the outside when there's still a fob still in the car? If there's someone sitting in the car with a fob they should be able to activate the fob from inside or press the door lock button on the dash. I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm saying it doesn't make sense to allow it if that's the case. Too me the only time it's reasonable to allow the doors to lock from the outside when a fob is in the car is if the doors are locked externally with another fob. I'm my opinion the sensor on the door handle should never lock if the car only detects one fob and it's inside the car. Given the safety issue you discussed above, that's the exact reason why pulling on the door handles of a locked comfort access car when it can only detect a fob inside the car should not result in the doors opening. |

if you lock the car with the fob out side the car and the doors are open then place the fob inside then close the doors, you are locked out, that is the only way i had been able to figure out how to get past the lockout prevention methods.

fob locked in car with comfort access system
I just have this happen to me with my fob being locked in the car. I called BMW they offered to order me a valet key for $45, keeping this in mind I instead called Triple A they said they would be right out. When the tow truck arrived he stated that he didn't want to touch anything because he was afraid that he would damage the vehicle. So I decided to call BMW back to order the valet (2 days to get it) and they stated that parts was closed
I do have BMW Roadside Assistance so I will see if there is anything they could do. |
