2007 Key fob no longer transmitting?

Hi everyone!

I did a search on this topic and I get tons of hits but nothing quite like I am experiencing. (Yikes, BMW!!!!)

I have a 2007 328xi with Comfort Access and ONE of our keys, the one used very infrequently, has stopped being able to operate remotely. It WILL start the car if inserted into the key lock but the remote aspects do not work. The other key, the one I use all the time, works without any issues.

Yes, we replaced the battery three times, including a f'ing $15 BMW battery. I brought the car in to the dealer yesterday and they are just telling me that the key needs to be replaced. I dunno, somehow I don't buy it. Why would a totally passive transmitter hanging on a hook inside just give up the ghost? Also, the key stopped working after my last routine service visit, although I can't pinpoint the date exactly.

Any ideas? Could the key really just have toasted itself? I assume the dealer tried reprogramming or whatever. $385, including labor, to replace it. Never had that kind of bullcrap with any of my Hondas/Acuras...

Love the car besides this kind of trash.

Thanks!!!

the car I bought only came with one fob, and it didn't work. When I got an additional fob (yeah...expensive) I paid an additional $100 to have it programmed. I had them program the original non-working one as well. Perhaps they just have to reprogram it rather than replace it. Good luck

I was having the EXACT same issues. My secondary key actually worked for a week or 2 no problems, then one day....nothing. No response from comfort access, won't lock or unlock, but would still start when the fob was inserted. Ended up being the battery for me though. Make sure its a CR2032 and + side up. Sorry to hear.
