Makes sense, if they increment the model designation people will inherently think "more expensive" which will allow the price point to go higher.

If this is true then this may be a sign they will be looking to throw more luxury into the coupe.
We already get the LED doors inserts and wood on the back center console as well as standard rear fold-down seats and full LED lighting (headlights and tail-lights minus the HIDs). Not to mention, the coupes also get larger diameter rims standard.

So will the new 4 series coupe be the M4? or will they keep it the iconic M3? I understand moving 1 series to 2 series to fit the city vehicles or whatever in the 1 series class.

This is just an easier straight comp to audi. A4= 3 a5=4 series and so on. It's really stupid considering how much brand loyalty they have built into their iconic 3 series. And yeah I'm still lost about potential for the m line.

I think there was also talk of the addition of the 2 and 4 series to the already 1 3 5 6 7. The 3 series would remain for example but in the lower platforms like the current 328 and the 4 series would include the current 335's.
Its in here some where I just need to find the thread. |

My understanding is that the even numbers would go to coupes
Quote:
2er would be 1er coupe 3er sedan 4er would be 3er coupe 5er sedan 6er is already 5er coupe (at least as much as e92 is e90 coupe) 7er sedan That is what I understand them to be doing. While the traditionalist in me wishes they would just leave it alone (like the xDrive and sDrive bull5417), it seems to matter to the people who are looking to buy the cars. -Tom |

Wasn't this same rumor going around about 4 years ago? IIRC, at that time the forthcoming new coupe & convertible versions of the existing one series were to become the 2 series, the 3er 2 doors would be the 4 series, etc.
So where does that put the Z4 - will it now be a Z4.5? Tom |

I don't think he was taking a jab at all. Do you really think calling a 328 a "lower platform" than the 335 is a jab at the 328? Isn't that just a statement of fact (lower price, lower performance, lower standard features)? Not trying to be boast about the superiority of the 335 in any way whatsoever, but I think you're reading too far into it...

that's ok, my primary purpose on this forum is to point out that the 335 sucks balls and is the worst car bmw has ever produced. a shining beacon of the demise of one of the best "driver's" sport-luxury brands throughout the 80's & 90's

Keep all the 3er variants 3er. Why destroy the entire line just to change it up. I'm fine with the 1er coupe/conv going to 2er given the FWD variants coming on the 1er in Europe. Make the 3er Gran Coupe a 4er, maybe.
Lots of variants, and I understand why, just don't mess with the 3er or the M3 as they are the core of the brand. The core. The history. The original 3er was only a coupe.

WTF BMW.
Just because Audi did it with the A5 doesn't mean you have to
