Car Completely Dead
Well guys I need some help. This morning I went to start my 335i and the first thing I notice is that the key fob wont open the door or anything. I take the key out and manually open the door. Mind you I replaced the cars battery about 3 weeks ago. Next thing I do is put the fob in the ignition thinking the fob might be dead and still nothing. The cars does nothing a no electronics work at all. I open up the hood and try jump starting the car and still nothing. At this point I did not know what to do next. I checked to see the battery terminal connections and they looked good. Anybody have an idea on what to look at before I tow the car into a shop?

Is it the battery that is dead, or the keyfob not transmitting a signal? Do your interior lights work?

I've had situations where a dead-dead battery wouldn't jump right away. I don't know if BMW's are different or the electronics don't allow the battery to completely drain, but I would try charging it with the other vehicle for 15 minutes or so and try starting again.

Well I replaced the cars battery 3 weeks ago. Nothing electronic works at all, even inserting the key fob it does not read it at all. Normally if this was the case it would at least tell me to insert the key. Not even the hazards turn on.

One thing I did notice was a weird buzzing sound coming from behind the glove compartment. Not too loud but with everything not working I could hear it. Not even sure if that has anything to do with but who knows.

Did YOU, personally, change the battery? Or did you get it done at a dealership or a BMW shop?
If you did it yourself, did you register the battery with your car (aka D.M.E. system) via coding? If not, that might be your problem, and the car is refusing to recognize the battery. If that is the case, you'll need the dealership (or someone with the capabilities to code a BMW) to register it. |

i changed my battery last week at LTBMW, used an OEM and had them register it as well..
Do you have an OEM battery from BMW? i've read that aftermarket batteries can cause problems for BMW's.

When you replaced the battery did you register it? Instead of jump starting you may need to charge it for awhile. Battery charges range from $30 on up. I got this one on sale for $30. Works perfectly. http://www.harborfreight.com/automot...ter-66783.html

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Well I did replace the battery myself with a direct replacement from Walmart. I did not register the battery but I looked through many threads and saw conflicting answers on whether it was needed or not. This is the first time though I have noticed any electrical problems.
