Push to start question

I own a 2006 BMW 325i and I have to put the key fob into the hole and press the button to start the ignition.. What I noticed though is if you turn off the car right after, take out the key and press the button the ignition will turn and you don't have to put in the key fob....

I'm confused... Why does it do that? And why doesn't it just recognize the key in your pocket where you don't have to insert in the hole?

I don't think I do because my mirrors don't fold/unfold on lock/unlock... Nor does the ignition turn on if the fob isn't inserted in the slot first, and my doors don't unlock when I grab the handle...

What I was saying is that I HAVE to put the key in to turn on the car... But if I turn off the car immediatly after and than remove the fob and put it in my pocket... my car will start without the fob by pressing the button... Is that like half ass CA? lol

So have you tried driving around without the key fob?

or maybe cuz the car knows the key is still in the car since the door was never opened?

It doesn't do it if you open the door after the first start...

And yes I drove without the fob in the slot before by doing this method... I think its stupid to do turn on and turn off your car just to not put in the fob.. I was just curious why it does that...

The original pushbutton start system was a little flaky, they "cleaned up" the way it works with the LCI.
I am curious - can you exit the car and lock it while the motor keeps running?

The mirrors don't fold automatically with comfort access, but nice try.

All e9x do this, LCIs included. I've been told it was some sort of rudimentary anti-carjack thing. Just a weird little quirk.

The car is sort of 'still alive' after we turn our cars off anyway right? I have the same year e92, and after I turn the car off I can hear the CD still spinning in the deck.

Also the light on the shifter stays on for about half an hour until she goes to sleep on her own and dreams about her next days' adventures lol

It's a feature found on non-comfort access e9x

I use it to warm up my car without having to be inside it lol

it's in case of emergency - something goes wrong, your car is stuck in the middle of an intersection, railway tracks etc..
