It's Dead, She killed it.
What you ask, my monthly payment is gone, DEAD, she killed it.
Car got paid off today. I married the perfect woman who made it her mission to kill the car payment as soon as she could. Today she sent in the final payment, just over two years earlier than it was financed for. What a woman, The ironic thing is that she did that before BMW was able to clear all the bugs out of the car, still working on those.

Actually she is retired. And I am still the bread winner and wear the pants. She is just a much better manager of money than I am. And yes, I am bragging about that, and I mean her

Financing at 0% for 18 months makes more financial sense than paying with cash. Time value of money...

Get her to work on the Mortgage now. We bought the 06 and didn't finance at all, but not much money left in the bank either. Just got done refinancing the house today at 3.95% fixed for 15 years. Payment will be about the same as we had on combined 1st and 2nd, but the house is paid off 6.5 years sooner.

I've only been a homeowner for 8 1/2 years. About 3 yrs. into it I had an older female coworker who told me she regrets not having paid more toward her mortgage, and she's looking at 50 by the time it's paid off (she was like early 40's). So I learned from her that it's not a bad thing if every extra penny goes to pay down that debt. Thanks to her in 2009 I refi'd and went to a 15 yr., and have done $1000/mo. extra ever since. That should take 3 1/2 years off the mortgage and save 47k in interest. $1000/mo. could almost get a 750i leased--which would I rather have? The 3 1/2 yrs. off and 47k savings.
Moral of the story, well, you probably don't have a mortgage since your lady is retired, but to anybody else, getting rid of debt may mean doing without new things all the time, but it's not a bad thing. |

It takes discipline. We all read about jack and the beemstalk. Many people do the 0%, and either spend or INVEST the cash they would have put down? If you INVESTed the cash anytime over the last 7 weeks, how big of a hole did you dig for yourself? And over the long term, if you did anything like that over the last 3, 5, or 10 years, doubtful you beat that low interest rate with your INVESTment. Those avgs. were roughly 0.9, 3.3, and 2.6 respectively if you want to take the S&P 500. How good does a 2.9% or 3.9% car loan look now, over the last decade? That loan is used to push product, just as a lease is used by the mfg.
