Worth Fixing?

I recently had Safelite replace the windshield (another story) on my 3 month old 2011 E90 and noticed the puncture below after I got the car back. I am reluctant to 'deal w/ it' since at night, light beams through it.

How much effort would be involved in replacing this piece of plastic? I would likely have someone else do the work but I'm worried about something else being screwed up.

Thx!!

If you are worried about that, then you should be be even more worried that your shift boot and the surrounding area is dirty. Don't sweat the small stuff, even though, as a BMW owner, you are probably one anal son of a B&^%.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

^^

The tech created the problem so its not something I'll have to pay for or fix myself. If the entire housing needs to be removed along w/ the center console, then I'll likely just deal with it. I don't know what's involved w/ taking this piece out.

Remove the shift knob by recessing the trigger button and pulling straight up, it takes a fair amt of strength. Then just tuck your fingers under the plastic an pull up it will pop off.

This is the first car I've owned w/ an AT. I knew it was only a matter of time until I was busted on.

The light shining through is pretty annoying at night..

Don't feel bad, I was just bustin your chops. Did the tech fess up to that? Do you think they will pay for it or did they tell you that they will pay for it? Did you get quotes? I hope that whoever repairs it doesn't break something else!

No worries! We'll see. Safelite did the original work and their warranty dept. already scheduled a tech to check it out this afternoon. The rep told me they'll likely send a PO to my dealership and have them fix it. So far so good.
