Windshield chipping very easily? Warranty issue?

Hey Everyone,

Just curious if anyone else is having this problem, and if anyone has any idea if this is something BMW would cover under warranty.

I have a 2011 e90, and have had it since october with just about 10k km's on it. I have noticed a few very small chips in my windshield over the time I've owned it, and have 2 fairly substantial chips already that have been filled. However today while washing the car, I noticed the windshield seems to have developed ALOT of small chips. I'm not sure if I never noticed before, or if they have recently just started developing, but it is very noticeable now. There is litterly hundreds of pin head to pebble sized white chips and it looks like the windshield is really dirty.

I've never had this issue on any other vehicle I have owned, especially in an 8 month old vehicle. Is this a common thing with BMW's? Anyone have a dealer address such an issue before?

Oh and also, 99% of the driving in this vehicle is on paved city roads, however we had a very long winter, and they did sand the streets alot this year.

No BMW is not going to warranty a new windshield b/c of chips which everyone gets as you drive the car..just like they r not going to repaint or replace ur bumper for chips..they cover drive train wear and tear items..brakes/rotors etc..

Not a warranty issue. Some of the spots are probably dirt (use a clay bar to remove them) and the rest are from following to close.

European cars tend to have "softer" glass to comply with pedestrian safety laws but that has nothing to do with pitting.

I have three big chips in my windshield and it's pitted from sand, but since none of the chips have given me cracks, I figure I'll keep going until it gets too bad to see through.
