Should I go through with this trade?!?!

Hey guys, I am pretty new here, and just wanted to see what you all thought about a trade I might do, and hopefully get some questions answered. I looked around a bit and could not find complete answers to my new questions, so I started my own thread!

Basically I have a 2010 Genesis Coupe 2.0t 6-speed. It has been a great car and only has a little over 16k miles, but I might want to switch over and see what a bmw is like. Here is my car in case you want to take a look:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=542808

Now I found a local dealer (I am in Atlanta) that has a 2008 328i coupe for sale and he said he will do an even trade for my car. Here is the bmw:

http://www.mazdaofroswell.com/used-i...U89017#Details

My main issue is the higher mileage than my current car. Do you think it is worth taking on the extra miles, and the warranty that is almost up? I probably have a little more than 3 years of the basica warranty left on the genesis (and a lot more on the powertrain). The BMW only has about 3k miles left on the warranty. Here are my main questions:

-Since I would still have the free maintenance, can you take your car in whenever or do you need to come in at a specific interval/time period?

-I know the 335i has had its problems, but what about the 328i? How reliable of problematic is it?

-After 50k miles, is the service that needs to be done pricey, and if so, can it be done at home?

I know most people will say go the certified route, but I am not sure if I have an extra 2000 to spend. I was hoping to do an even trade and that is what the guy at this dealer said he could do, minus the 200 dealer fee.

Finally, I have not driven the car, but what is the 328i like in terms of power? I know if won't be 335i fast, but I have been surprised at how fast my car feels with the turbo and 6-speed. Any comments about this would be appreciated.

Thanks guys!

UPDATE:

-I looked up private party value for both cars. Mine comes in at 21k the bmw at 24k. Considering through the cash for clunkers program and other various incentives I got my car for lower than that, do you think it would be a good deal simply to have a car that will probably depreciate better?

thats not a good deal. you can get CPO 335i fully loaded for around $26k

- maintenance is done ONLY at specific interval/time period
- dont know. probably still has some minor bugs and issues. its a BMW...all have something
- service is pricey, especially at dealer, you can sure change oil and tranny fluid yourself

Sorry I didn't put it at the top, but the only reason I am looking at it is that he said he would do an even trade, minus a 200 or so dealer fee. He said there would be no taxes either.

Looks like the 328 has non-sport wheels and seats. That's a deal breaker for me.

I don't mind the wheels, but are the non sports seats really that bad? My car right now has decent side bolters.

Haha I would love to have a 335i, but I am mainly just looking for something I can do an even trade for, and after looking for a while I still haven't found anyone with a 335i who wants to.

The main concern for me would be outrageous maintenance costs and things that could go wrong. I realize it's a BMW but I was wondering if the 328i was pretty reliable in general.

That's a horrible deal for 47k miles, 2008, and basically stripped down 328! Keep the Genesis, it will last you forever and in the mean time save up a little for a loaded 335.

So you think its a bad deal even if its an even trade? I am just thinking about resale value down the road as well.

Terrible deal. I purchased a mint condition 2008 335i from them with navi, premium pkg, and every other option except comfort access for less than that about a month ago. It had about 8,0000 more miles on it but I got way more car. Not really worried about the cost to maintain bc my finances are in order. So I would say if your money situation is on point, which it should be if you are buying a BMW used or New I think better deals are out there for sure. Be patient my friend and you will find your diamond in the ruff.

The 328 is reliable there's no big surprises with them. I don't know how fast the Genesis is, but I like the power I get from my 328. It's a reliable well built car. Has a history of a ticking noise (which is no big deal) due to lifters that have to be changed, but at that mileage it probably has been done already and if not you still have the maintenance warranty to repair whatever is needed.

Drive it and see what you think. Everyone here has 335s really so you're not going to get any better of an opinion than "get a 335" For some reason this website seems to be a bit anti-328. If you want a community that's not bias, bimmerpost.com has very respectful people. Although, here there is a lot more action.

By the way that's not really a GREAT deal. For reference I bought a CPO 328xi coupe // 34,253 miles // Cold weather // Premium // $29,900 (which isn't such a spectacular deal either but it's what you're going to pay for CPO from dealer here in NJ)

I guess I will keep looking then! Good point about finances though. I am 20 and in college right now, which is why I am only really interested in doing an even trade. However I do have a good job and would probably be able to cover most costs of maintenance as long as they don't cost thousands of dollars. The most ideal thing though would be to find a CPO I can do an even trade for.

Has your 335 had any problems yet? Do you regret not getting it CPO?

Sorry for the double quotes. I know this varies, but what kind of fuel economy do you get with yours?

Not one single problem. The only issue I had was with that dealership. They sold the car to me with a window sticker that said the car was still under factory warranty but upon taking it to be inspected by a BMW dealer i found out it was not. They would not take anymore off the price of the car but it was still less then that 328 you asked about so i got it anyway.

Don't regret getting a CPO because I would have paid close to $10,000 more for a cpo 335 with the features I have. I dnt plan on having to spend anywhere near $10,000 dollars on repairs for this car so I feel I got an awesome deal.

Practical side says keep the Hyundai, BUT you only live once, go for it!
Edit: I didn't know you were only 20. Stay practical for a few more years.

CPO is a must for almost any German car, especially for 335i. This car does have more problems then usual. The deal you are getting is ok..... not bad, people in here don't understand that you doing an even trade. Simply check out NADA trade-in values for your car and for this BMW, if they are even, then its a good deal.

^ it makes no sense. CPO costs $3k max from a dealer..... not $10k....

Clean trade-in for your car looks like $21k, so you are pretty much getting the 328i for $21k.....and since you are not paying taxes (because its a trade-in), this is equal to about $19.5k Private Party

I say go for it. good deal. clean e92 6-speed .....remember e90s and autos cost less.

What does CPO mean on this forum? Where I'm from it means Certified Pre Owned. You find me a CPO 335i with the options I have for the price of the 328 the op is considering. Im willing to bet all of them will be around 10k more in the Atlanta metro area. Sooooo if I got my car for around 10k less than an equivalent CPO 335 why would I buy the CPO 335?
