06 e90 - static and reduced FM reception?
My head unit (BMW professional radio) on my 2006 325i was replaced recently after it failed. Before it was replaced, it wouldn't communicate with the computer, didn't respond to steering wheel controls, and had loud static on all inputs. After replacement and coding, most everything works except I still get static on the AUX input and the FM reception seems worse than I remember it.
The static isn't apparent unless the AUX volume is set to 3+ or above and is made worse when the system volume is raised, especially above the halfway mark. It doesn't matter if there is a cable plugged into the aux jack or not, it still does this. The dealer says its "normal" and that they have noticed other cars also have static on the AUX input. But I am not so sure about this because I don't remember any before the radio failed and was replaced with a new unit. The new unit seems like a newer p/n than the one I originally had (65-12-9-130-046 vs an older one). Is this sound normal based on what other people have noticed? If not, what might I troubleshoot to see if there is something else going on? Is it possible another related component is malfunctioning that is causing this? Also, what about the FM reception? suggestions? Here is an iPhone video of what the static sounds like: Last edited by asus389; 07-11-2011 at 05:46 PM.. |
