Which would you choose (335 vs M3)
Hey guys, I am just looking for some input here as I am a bit torn on what to do.
I currently own a 07 328I, and am looking at upgrading in the near future. This is my daily driver, including the winter (which can get nasty). If you were going to drop 40-45k on a new ride would you go for an 10' - 11' 335i with a 5-10k on it or would you go for an 08' M3 with 30-40k on it? I am looking at pretty much bare bone 335's and M's (so long as it has the sport pack(335), and a 6MT) I would love to rip around in the M but I think where this will be a daily driver, the 335 with the best part of a full 3yrs of warranty would be the smarter move. What do you think? Thanks!! Chris |

I would definitely go for the M3. Most of the people on M3post drive theirs daily, I think you should read a few threads there if you haven't already. Just make sure you have a set of snow tires for the winter

They are two completely different cars...
The M is a track performer and the 335i is a fantastic daily driver. The hp on the M is higher but the tq on the 335 is slightly better (especially considering the fact that it is at lower revs which makes it ideal for daily driving). The sound of the M is fantastic but you have to rev that engine a little to get the most power out of it (not ideal for daily driving). In addition, if the 335i's power does not satisfy you and you will be driving it around the streets, to get more straight line performance that is nearly equal to the M3, all you have to do is buy a $500 tune that nearly matches the M3's HP. If you are looking for a daily driver that has lower insurance costs, gets better fuel economy and in daily driving is nearly as quick as the M3, buy the 335i. If you want the ultimate experience although are willing to put up with a few drawbacks (higher insurance costs, maintenence costs and gas costs) buy the M3. If it was me I'd choose the 335i but only because I don't track the car and it is more practical. The moment tracking the car comes into play or general performance driving, the M3 wins hands down. |

haha, ur in canada, diesel is pricey up there if i'm not mistaken? why not check out an audi S4, Quattro proved awd system that works great in the snow. (I have a Q5 and can attest to this) similar power and a way nicer interior. |

The BMW is my daily, hence the reason I bought the 335i over a M3. I've owned M's in the past, but I wanted a softer and more economical car as a daily. Now I'm just debating on what my next garage queen will be....leaning towards the new M5 or C63 coupe.

Think about how long you expect to keep it and how long the fuel pump warrantees last.

There is no question that an M3 will outperform a 335i. The question that you have to ask yourself is whether you will take advantage of the increased performance or whether it matters to you. The M3, as high performance as it is, is very docile and IMO is well suited to being a daily driver,
I think the M3 is a great car but for my purposes is was more than I needed for the street and not really suited to my needs as a track car. CA

I would love to have the M3 but only if I had a second vehicle for winter. My 335i was ok in the winter but this last winter beat the crap out of my car. Lost a winter tire to a pothole.
Go with the 335xi in Canada and get a set of winters. Good luck with whatever you choose. |

Both great cars. If I had the money I'd go with the M3. But seeing i don't I'd stick with the 335i for the better gas mileage, lower insurance costs, etc. As for tuning factor yes the 335i is a tuners dream. But if your a tuner with money go for the M3 I believe not 100% sure though but M3s have superchargers and i think HPF is making or has made a turbo for it. Then it will probably crush the 335i's.
