I personally like the Amuse Erikson trunk!!! You should check out the vendor and the picture sections!!! Those areas can give you some ideas for what you might like!!!

stick with stock and replace the speakers first.

Tape? I thought in 2006 cars were coming with a pop-out turntable for vinyl.

I confess to being surprised that a 2006 has a tape deck... and admit that calling it "a deck" adds an element of cool factor to what would otherwise simply be an outdated technology that isn't yet old enough to be considered "retro chic."

Go here for stereo questions

And find out how hard it is to change decks on an L7 system

http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=27

You have to change the amp to as there is a proprietary fiber optic connection
between it and the factory Head Unit.
Plus there are side effects.

Now you got it... "Head Unit". LOL. Definitely go to the electronics and audio subforum, there is a wealth of information there. I think any change in the HU will lower the resale value of the car and you will lose things like the seatbelt chime, steering wheel control of channel and whatnot. But good luck.

I have added new speakers up front and a sub in the trunk with a 4-channel and a 1-channel amp, didnt touch the HU or cut into the dash and I am perfectly happy.
