330i E90 to 2008 335i E90
I have the option to upgrade to a CPO 2008 335i and keeping my payments the same. (Same options i.e. sports package and navigation)
Here are some details: 330 CPO 2006 yr 88,000 miles 100,000 mile/April 2012 extended warranty White with Black Leather,Aluminum trim ZSP Nav 335 2008 yr 28,000 miles CPO Black with Beige interior, Wood Trim ZSP Nav Obviously there are Fuel Pump issues with the 335 and my 330 has been very solid. I would like some input on other things i should be concerned of with the 335i 2008 year model. I know the iDrive would be better in the 2008 models but what other mechanical issues should i be concerned with? Not sure i like the Beige interior but I would love the twin turbos Any comments welcome |

same payment, but for how many more months?
i would stick with the 330. if the color combo isnt what you want, wait for a better car to show up. |

Lol I was trying not to concern myself with that. I comfortable with the payment amount and it is highly unlikely i would keep the car till payoff anyway.
I have just under two years left to pay off the 330 and would most likely keep the 335i for two or so years. I don't mind the beige so much but do wonder if it gets dirtier as the black you cant really tell if its dirty. |

I'm sure the 335 would be more fun but financially you're much better off keeping the 330. Monthly payments can be adjusted to almost any amount, it's the total payments that makes the difference. FYI, take a peek at PenFed as their car loans/refinancing is at 2.49% right now.
Also, if you don't plan on keeping either car until it is paid off then why are you buying a car? I suspect you could lease a brand new one for a similar price. The advantage to buying vs. leasing is when you pay off the car and you have no car payment for many months to years. If you don't mind having a car payment indefinitely then you are better off going with a lease that will always be under warranty. Unless you drive a crazy amount of miles each year, then leasing might not be a good option. |

I say do it. There's 10,000 Suzie Orman's on here but it's your money. I did a similar upgrade recently (328 to 335) and I am in seventh heaven. I would just say get a copy of the svc history for the car. It is an 08 so you don't have to worry about the oil cooler, but find out if the injectors have been replaced under recall. I am still learning, so that's about all I can help with!!!! Good luck!

What do you plan on doing with the 335 two years from now? Upgrading to the F30?

The amount of times i had to take it to the dealer.. the MPG..
The smoothness of the N/A engine.. 330i is one solid car... the only difference is the turbos... If u can live without the turbos then you should be fine.. My only advice... do not test drive the 335.. the drive and feel of the car will sell you.. but once u get over it.. u will miss the 330i

Not sure. I may keep it longer. Just with all my last cars I have never actually paid them off and moved on to something newer. Why not lease you ask? I have never liked being limited as far as what I can do to the car and how many miles I can drive. I may drive under the allowed limit but if I get the desire to drive cross country 10 times I don't want anything to stop me. Not that I would actually do this, just saying. |

You sir are going the route I was hoping for. I want to know about oil cooler issues etc.. I generally peruse the N/A section and don't want to miss the other technical/mechanical issues I may encounter/ Not know about going the Turbo route. |

Oh and trust me have been using the but most of what I find is all about modding and not much on actual problems with exception the the pump failures.

oil cooler itself isn't an issue...only that some early 2007s didn't have them. not an issue with 08 and beyond.

Your post really opened up my eye. I was thinking of switching to a 335i, but now I may consider sticking with my 328i.

I'm actually about to do the something as you. I want to trade in my 07 328i e90 for a 08 335i e92. After test driving the 335i I was pretty much sold. I have just been doing some research on the car first before I commit.
Maybe someone can answer this for me. Is it a big problem that the car has 49000 miles, is a CPO and had the fuel pump, steering column, and camshaft replaced? |

If anyone can explain, is it the math, or simply the can't drive a car older than 3 years conundrum? Isn't there a viable option to have no payments and keep the same car? Is it somehow too humbling to drive a 2006 BMW (5 year old car??)? These lateral moves cost $$$$$. Not cost, waste. Anyway, since getting a new car makes no sense whatsoever, but you're gonna do it anyway, why make a lateral move? Do a M3 or 545/550. But it is nice to be a salesperson and play the same payments/better car trick, after all, they have to make a living too. |

Update
So here is a little update. I took the 335 home Friday night to see how id like it and it was as awesome as everyone says it is. The fiance was like, 'Its the same car just black. I don't get it". So i took her for a little joy ride and and tried to knock her panties off. She still didn't get it. Anyway here is what it came down to and my decision: 335i actually only had 21,000 miles. It had ZSP, Premium and comfort access options. 1 owner. It was clean and had been in one minor accident needing the front bumper replaced. No air bag deployment , frame damage etc.. I liked the comfort access and heated seats but other than that the idrive was not that much better than my 330. No maintenance plan like my 330 either. I have a about 700 of "equity" in my 330 and the dealer wanted to give me 14,500 for it. Asking price for the 335 was 33,800 and after trade in taxes etc.. 34,500. They wanted to charge for phantom footprints but that seemed weird as wouldn't the first purchaser have already paid that? So total price was 34,550 plus another 2000+ for maintenance plan. Adding the necessary upgrades such as black lines, black grill, new angel eyes etc.. I quickly decided it just wasn't a financially sound plan to mover forward on. The monthly payments would have been about 40$ more than what i pay now which i could cover but listening to the advice of others and my conscience is chose to stick it out with my 330. Thanks for all of your advice. The 335 rocked but take away the motor and it really would have been pretty much the same car with just a few enhancements and I just couldn't justify it to myself. |
