New car is just approaching 3,000 miles...
I love love love love love this car. I plan on driving it into the ground. It's not going anywhere for a long time.
I baby this car so... Should I pay the dealer to change the oil at 3,000? or Should I just wait for the one year free oil change.

depends how hard you drove it the first Xk miles. if you drove it enthusiastically, i would give it a change at the earliest 4.5k the first change, then annually thereafter.

3000 is excessive for this car...wait till 7500 and change it at your expense...basically once in between every dealer visit

I change the oil myself every 5-6k. The oil change is really simple and you can get the kit for around $70 from Tichner BMW.

I'm wondering about this also. I have a '11 335i and I drive it kinda hard. I always thought the first oil change was crucial because the engine sheds metal flakes and particles being that its new. And that stuff is all up in the oil and needs to be drained out. Also, I just don't buy into the new oil technology that you don't need to change the oil until 15k miles+. Oil is oil, technology my ass.

I do it for peace of mind. There are folks in here that have ha their oil tested an proven that it does hold up very well over the miles.
