Interesting Coding Idea...

Not sure if anyone has ever thought of this, but i was wondering if it is possible to code an e90 to automatically close the windows when you hit a certain speed. Lets say you have your windows down and you go on the highway and you reach, lets say, 55 mph and all the windows just go up.

I know its probably a reach but i had to ask.

Not sure regarding the window idea, however you can get the doors to close automatically when entering freeways at roughly 60 mph. Well lubed door hinges probably a little below 60.

lol that took me a while to get it. I like the idea of the windows closing at a certain sped though but don't think it's possible.

WHat if you wanted to windows open on the highway? Seems like the feature would be more annoying that anything.

It makes sense to close your windows when driving at highway speed. I personally keep the windows up 99.9% of the time I'd rather keep bugs dust and hot air out of the car.

I know of a way to close the windows at a certain speed and it's not at all that difficult.....but it won't happen though coding.

Does it involve the window switches, your fingers, and watching the speedometer?

lol no I was talking about using a logic board and an accelometer.

Get the reading from the accelometer and map that to an output on the logic board.

Have it trigger a 12v relay and then tap all the window switches while putting a diode inline with the existing + wire to prevent current from flowing the wrong way.

Should run about $60 using the logic board I used for my angel eyes.

EDIT: This would kinda dangerous though. I don't think the anti-pinch safety feature would work. It might, you guys would need to test that out.

I assume you have an E93 then? If not, you don't know what "open" is.

Yea, it very doable. I'm still working on my angel eye project. But it will also benefit this. I'm having a problem with my voltage regulator dropping voltage under 5v...so the board goes into a continuous reboot loop.

I've had many suggestions thrown at me to fix it but I haven't had time to actually test the circuits.

I'll start working on this when I'm done with the angel eye project.

The 850s do this. I think it's some where around the 115 mark, someone can correct me tho. I think it's supposed to be around 85, but in reality it doesn't happen until the 115 mark. Should be standard!

No windows up at speed why?

Because race car.

Seriously though, if you ever do any HPDE or other type of driving school this would be down right silly.
