Just another Xi on KW V1 and Stock 18 Wheels

I got KW V1 installed a couple of weeks ago. The ride is firm but not jarring on OEM RFTs but the handling is MUCH improved. The initial drop after the coils have settled was a bit too much as I didn't want to be "slammed". It would just become an expensive snow plow in the winter . I had it raised approximately 1/4 inch and added 12mm spacers all around.

Here are the pictures:

Before

Right after

Raised 1/4" + 12mm Spacers

Wheel Gap before

Wheel Gap after the 1/4" raise (It looks larger in photos due to lighting... I can only fit 1.5 fingers in there)

Very large improvement. Looks great!

I would have raised it a tad as well.

Looks great...

Just a small word of advice. I would ditch the RFTs because the KWv1 spring/rebound rates are not engineered to match the stiff sidewalls of the RFTs. I actually bend my two front strut rods because of this and hitting one larger bump on a highway. My coil-overs are now in CA getting serviced and the rods replaced as I type. They've been there for almost 2 months now (waiting for parts from Germany... sigh)

Just a small word of advice though. Road conditions vary from place to place.

Cost of installation varies from shop to shop. I got it done for $250 CAD at a reputable shop in my area.

Hmm that's no good at all!

I was planning to switch to 19" VMR VB3 in Hyper Black with Hankook Ventus V12 tires when the rims are back in stock (and when my wallet recovers!).

Thanks for the advice.

Things happen. I live in the NYC Metro area so we have some bad roads. I'm very careful but sometimes you get caught.

Enjoy the KWs, I'm anxious to get mine back. They should be finished this week!

Looks great for sure.

Sounds like you did exactly what I did raising it up a little after the initial drop. Unfortunately I had to raise it slightly higher at the rear, so I increased the rake more than I wanted.

Did you rasie the rear also? Did you do this yourself or go back to Rocco?

I'd like to adjust the drop again, just a little in the rear, but not sure how feasible this is as a DIY. I've seen people go in through the trunk area, but not sure this can be done without the trunk flap cut out.

I went back to Rocco for the adjustments and spacers. The front was raised 1/4" and the rear was raised just a tiny bit so the rake was not affected much. Rocco said he adjusted it as much as he could without taking anything off. He said if I wanted to raise the rear more he would have to take the coils off to adjust it (due to the design of the Xi, not the coil-overs) and he would have to charge me for the work since it's very time consuming.

Adjusting the front should be fairly DIYable but the rear might not be feasible.

They are unbranded custom made spacers Rocco uses for his race E90s. They were $150 a pair including the extended bolts.

Yes

12mm is perfect for the front but I think the rear would look even better with 15mm but that would have a higher risk of rubbing.
