1M Sat Nav - Speed camera detection

Do any of you clever people out there know if this is possible with the sat nav in the 1M ?
My Z4 allows me to buy an upgrade DVD every year and all the speed cameras etc are on this DVD, this info has been a saviour over the 3 years that i have had the Z.

Any help, comments or suggestions would be appreciated on how to get this working on the 1M

Me too. Seems a bit tacky to have a TomTom or similar stuck beside a big sat-nav screen.

I highly doubt it, since there are countries that forbid, by law enforcement, the use or possession (inside a car) of electronic devices that CAN provide information or location of speed cameras.

In Switzerland, your equipment is seized. If it's built-in in your car, not sure what exactly they'll do then, but you won't be allowed to drive further.

In Holland, there's ongoing discussion to ban Coyote as well.

So car manufacturers will not provide this technology any longer in their built-in equipment.

PS: my own logical conclusion. Not sure if this already is a fact of life.

Its a shame.

The entire point of a speed camera is to make you slow down, it seems ridiculous that a government would ban the sale of something that alerts you to their presence, which makes you slow down.

I think the stated point of speed/intersection cameras is to slow down drivers, but the actual point seems to be revenue generation.

They want you to speed so they can catch you and shake you down.

It is the same deal as with radar detectors. They don't want you to know where not to speed so hopefully you won't speed at all.

I would also be very interested!

As I was looking at getting a road angel.

Denso where did you get the DVD for your Z?

Would have come in handy earlier this evening on the M25.

Cops on a bridge with radar!

Not going that fast but still going to be watching the mail for a few weeks!

The speed cameras have to be public information, you can actually look online and find them. Escort sells radar detectors that can be programmed with Red Light cameras and Speed Traps (http://www.escortradar.com/passport9500ci-details.php)

Valentine One detects/knows where cameras are? I thought it was just a standalone radar & Laser detector.

To be honest most fixed camera's have signs indicating their presence so really a radar detector is what you want - the unexpected!

This is an american product so i was skeptical about purchasing because of the different frequency operation etc.

How long have you had this?

I might order a RoadAngel Vantage and have it hardwired in my 1M. Plus I'll get a nice digital speed readout as well

It's can be 'that can', because then any GPS can provide you the location of fixed camera (it's a question of the right map, that's just software), and now just about every single mobile phone has a GPS in it and therefore CAN provide location of fixed cameras (once again, just a question of software).

By that definition those countries would ban all GPS and phones...

That's why the BMW software and maps do not include radar location functionality. So BMW 1M GPS can not show you radar locations. So it's ok to be used in your car.

If they stop you, and you have an Iphone with Coyote installed on it, you have a ticket. If the Iphone does not have Coyote installed, it is OK.
If your Iphone has Coyote installed, but you are transporting your Iphone in your trunk (thus not inside the car where it CAN be used), you are safe as well.

Don't try to find too much logics in law enforcement. You'll always end up stunned.

There is an app for the iPhone called Trapster that you might want to check out. I don't think it updates that quickly in real-time, however.
