For myself i'm just trying not to go w.o.t. and keeping it under 5k. Mine went in yesterday for its first checkup and my clutch was slipping due to an oil leak from the trans. Probably hydraulic oil , not the trans oil itself. It was probably keeping the clutch from biting at full torque.... But then again , wtf do I know.!!! Btw , thanks to my rep who lent me a x5 M...!!!!! holy smacks!!!! Oh and had the windows tinted and black kidneys installed but i was so pissed off before knowing that they would lend me the x5 that i didnt even notice anything... Cant wait to see it today!!!

Keep it under 5.5K rpm for the first 1200 miles. Constantly keep it at different rev levels and don't push the gas pedal all the way in until you hit the 1200!
Congrats! |

And while you don't go WOT, you do accererate hard for occasional short bursts in varying rpm ranges (beneath 5,500 rpm or thereabouts) to put load on the motor and ensure proper seating of the rings. Neil |

Guess i'm in trouble...hehe. Break in service is next week. Went to the track last monday and hit north of 5500rpms and 120mph.
Prior to that (first 900 miles) i did per the owners manual, with the occasional burst. |

Franklin,
You sold your E30 M3 track car for a 1M? I noticed Mark (M3 Adjuster) is also picking one up. That's three members from S14.net... My brother is actually picking up the car; we are leaving for ED in Munich tomorrow (Saturday); will be at the Ring on Tuesday/Wednesday. Should be a fun trip; we are even seeing Mobile Tradition (or Classic Collection now). I'll be starting another thread for the trip. Cheers guys! |

I knew your screen name sounded familiar. I sold the e30m3 long time ago. Actually got into another e30m3 after that then a e36 racecar. Sold the racecar last month. Have fun at the ED!!! |

I saw your screen name and it made me check this thread. I just got my allocation confirmed this week, and have my e30 m3 chassis to sell off.
I believe that Automobile crowned the 1M the second coming of the E30m3.. it's an amazing car. Looking forward to details from your brother's delivery Quote:

When I was breaking in my RS4 (I realize it is different engine) there was a fairly smart guy specifying how you should bring it up to the allowable RPM's for the break in mileage, not at WOT but gradually and then just back off the accelerator and let the car slow down using engine compression. It was supposed to help the rings seat properly to reduce oil consumption and help to really "break in" the engine. I followed this religously and never had any issues with oil consumption or any other problems. (drove my wife nuts btw if she was in the car) I'm going to do this again when I finally receive the 1M later in the year,

So no E30 M3 for you then. Tisk Tisk. I'm going to start a new thread here in a bit. Leaving for the airport in an hour... couldn't really sleep. It's going to be a carvacation... I've been to Germany before when I was a teen, and we went to the Dingolfing Plant (Where they built the Z8), and also to the Munich museum. We have a friend with what we believe has an EX-AC Schnitzer DTM Car, so we are going to see if either Mobile Tradtion or AC can get a copy of the logbook or supply any other information. Anyhow; good talking with you guys and glad to see other members from S14 over here! It's like starting all over again. On a large foot note; Mark, do you plan on going to 2012's F1? I believe that is where I met you (at the last Indy F1 race at the BMW Corral tent correct?). It's right in your backyard (or close I would assume). Cheers guys! Back to the break in- Yes; we've been told the same thing about load break in. Just wanted to see if anyone else has been doing this or if they've been going out hard right at the gate (which some argue as well).. Alright... off to the airport. |

1.) Warm up engine normally.
2.) Drive the fuck out of it, don't bounce off the limiter, though. 3.) The most important part is to use engine braking to build vacuum. Take it all the way up in 2nd or 3rd and take your foot off the gas until the revs drop down to 2000 or so. Do not let the engine lug. 4.) Repeat. 5.) Change oil and filter well before the 1200 mile mark. I would probably change them both at 100, 600, and then again at 1200 just to be safe. There will be a lot of metal in your oil. Flame on, 1addicts! (My 135th post, yay)
