Delivery Mileage What's Yours Got?

My car has just arrived at my dealer's and I have just popped down to take a look ahead of preparation and collection. The sun was shinning and the VO looks amazing, really bright and tasteful. I was handed the keys and given the opportunity to start the car which was a great feeling. I noticed that the mileage was on 24 Miles / 39 Kilometres. I have had a number of new cars in the past and this is way higher than I have ever experienced before.

What mileage did your 1M's come with from new?

There's no reason for it to have more than 5 miles on the clock.

If it does, it's been taken out for test drives, either by dealership employees or by prospective buyers.

Don't they put a few miles on the car for inspection and testing purposes?

The car was also showing an average MPG of 9 MPG (Imperial), the HK was on when I put the key in the slot and I could hear a bit of mechanical noise from the engine like a noisy tappet. What should I think?

mine had 5 miles when I collected it. I would ask the dealer about the miles and see what they say?

I wouldnt worry about the mechanical noise and the MPG figure is fine!

My 135i had 9km, and the 1M had 24km. Being the first car at the dealership, I just assumed they have to test drive it thoroughly to make sure everything is right . It had only 12km when it was on the showroom floor after pre-delivery tests, so they put an extra 12km on for another couple of things that needs to go on the car which to me is more than what it was needed.

Honestly, I am sure the sales wouldn't be game to jump in, but I do believe the mechanics put the km on in the name of pd road test. I wouldn't mind for them to jump in a have a go; they just had to ask - just a principle thing.

Really, I wouldn't make a big fuss although it is quite high - you are the person who get to enjoy the car after all.

Each car gets ran for a couple of miles on rollers at the end of the Production line to a set of computer generated tests. They test quick acceleration, braking, safety functions ect.

This is also the first time the engines are ran on gasoline in non M cars.

From there they are driven to the staging area where they are loaded on trains for distribution, then driven a small amount to load and off load at the Ship yard, then to the delivery trucks to the dealers.

They usually have ~2 to 4 miles on them at delivery.

Lol. Like what? 1/5000th of the purchase value, because it has driven 1/5000th of its life-cycle ?

That'll get you 10$.

3 miles, 24 miles, 60 miles. So what.
It's not like there's already a 1000 miles on it.
