Bad luck mate.

Makes £499 tyre insurance seem reasonable for 3 years of cover and 5 tyres!

Me too
Do you have tire and wheel insurance? That saved me. I ran over some construction junk and ruined both a tire and a wheel. The worst part of it was having to drive on Snows until they got the wheel in.

I've only had that low a profile tire for track tires. It doesn't leave room for error.

How did you handle the situation, given that the 1M doesn't have a spare?

Luckily I was close to home. If not I could have used the can of "goop" ie mobility kit. I also cary a tire plug kit with all my cars and in the past sometimes have been able to plug the tire until it can be replaced. It depends on how bad and where the puncture is. If all else fails I would call BMW Assist and have the car flat-beded to the dealer. My dealer is very generous about loaners.

Before we discovered the wheel was bad I had a loaner from the dealer. I elected to drive on my snows because the wheel took longer to get than the tire.

Actually this is the first time a plug hasn't worked adn my puncture was too large to use the goop.

It is a very slow puncture and i was close to a garage, i managed to get 2.8bar in the tyre and made it the 4 miles home very slowly. I thought it was a leaking valve as the tyre has needed air a couple of times since i picked it up, the car is booked in for its 1200 mile service on Friday and i had hoped for them to check this out and another couple of niggles at the service. The car is going to the dealer today so lets see what they say the outcome is

I got mine thru my dealer - it was 3rd party.

Tyre insurance will be cheaper sourced elsewhere then through BMW. After all BMW insure through a third party anyhow.

I would patch the tire from the inside. I do it on my 135 and Corvette. Its a much safer fix than a plug and you will feel confident at speed.

It is too close to the side wall so they are saying it is beyond repair It looks like it is a fastening stud for metal roof cladding and it has pierced it right on the edge

You are correct but the plug is a good stop gap measure.unfortunately the cord was shreded and the wheel was cracked.

Guys, I feel your pain. I went past a construction site on my third day of 1M ownership and got a big nail in the tyre . . . less than 200km on the clock!!!!

Luckily it was a repair not a new tyre, but I was PISSED.

Drywall screw

Just found a drywall screw in the middle of the tread of my driver's side rear tire.

I have the insurance, but I suspect they will want to 'fix' it. Should I let them just plug it if that is what they want to do? My last one (diff car) was more cut and dry because it was too close to the sidewall.

Thoughts?
