No soundproofing under hood - only 1///M specific?

I noticed that the soundproofing that I have on my '08 135i is not on the 1///M. Is that just for weight savings or are 2012 E82s also so (can't imagine it's more than 5lbs if that, but I guess every lb counts).

The 1M has limited soundproofing throughout as a weight-saving measure. The roof and doors, for example, are also affected.

Yeah, I recall reading that upon initial release. With that said, former 135i owners - is the ///M noticeably louder at road speeds?

It's my understanding that, on the M3 at least(aluminum hood), the insulation is left off because it traps heat and the hood by itself actually dissipates heat better. Not certain if this is true for the 1M or not.

Not really, just the exhaust as someone else said which I like, and the drone between 2100-2500 which I don't.

I had a 335i, not 135i.
But the 1M is definitely much louder in the interior, even at low RPM.

I think only the '08 E82/E88 had the underhood insulation, at least in the U.S.

IIRC There was a running change in late 08 or early 09 that they started to delet the insulation on all cars...

then as time went by they got cheaper and cheaper and deleted things like lighters / ashtrays / trunk keyholes etc etc
