Is this the August issue?

I've just bought it (13th July edition) and it gets a fantastic write up. In fact, they have the 1M for a whole 12 months on long term test, so there should be an update most weeks!
Some quotes from the article (as I don't have access to a scanner at the moment). So what happens on a typical journey? Well I'll go outside and fire the 1M up and immediately half the curtains in the street start twitching as the exhaust note thunders across the neighbourhood. Sorry about that folks, but my gosh it does sound good doesn't it? Before I've even reached the duel carriageway I will have received at least one thumbs up from a pedestrian or a flash of approval from a fellow motorist...." "....I'll then realise that for the past two minutes the lads in the bespoliered Rover 200 alongside have been filming the 1M on their camera phones. This happens quite a lot..." "....I can maybe put up with the overly meaty steering wheel in exchange for what happens when you put your foot down (which is absolutely sensational)..." "...I think the 1M is an absolute scream. Not only is it outrageously rapid in a straight line (especially so with a tank of superjuice I've noticed) but it also has an old-fashioned feel and composure in the twisty bits that is a rare delight to sample in 2011. The sort that's been missing from M-Cars for too long. It actually talks to you, this car and the conversation it makes most of the time is pretty fascinating." |

Thanks! Good reading... The exhaust drone issue seems to have been covered on here a fair bit.
Was that the first post of the blog ? I couldn't find an easy way to see if there were other blog entries... Quote:

I've got to say that whilst I notice a small modality in the exhaust note, I really wouldn't call it a drone.

It talks to you alright, but it didn't tell me it's about to scrap a curb, ouch. What happen was I didn't feel the drop off on the side of the road that I used to with my 135i as the tyre is wider. <-- my fault. It is some what improving (or I am getting used to it), but it was really loud when I first took delivery at 110km in 6th gear. Now it still drones, but definitely bearable. Too bad I forgot to record the sound level, but I might do it today, and check it out again at a later date.

Is it possible to avoid the drone by using 5th gear at 110kph instead of 6th?
Alternatively, would an exhaust specialist be able to remedy the excessive noise? |

Excessive noise? Meh!! See appropriate comment in automobile mag review "Take a 328i owner on a highway ride in the 1M coupe, and his sensitive ears will bleed from the exhaust's drone. These are not flaws. The 1 series M doesn't have any flaws!" Love it. It is music to my ears along the entirety of my 30-45 minute commute!

In my car the "drone" was slightly increasing up to 2500 km and starting with 4000 km I get the impression that it decreases over time. |

Good to know that it is decreasing over time as the resonance between 2100-2500 in my car is kind of annoying.
