I need help! Transmission makes loud click when shifting to drive and reverse
So I recently purchased my 3rd BMW, a 2007 328i Automatic. 38k miles. So often, when I shift into drive and reverse, I hear a loud metal on metal sounding click. I have researched everywhere, and can not find any potentail cause or resolve. I took the vehicle to my EXCELLENT BMW mechanic, and it happened only once, however, this was not enough for him to diagnose the problem. Has anyone ever heard of this? I really need help with this... its stressing me out!

I think I know what you mean, I may have heard the same thing when I throw it into park from drive at stand still. I can only hear it if my door is open.

Ha, This is funny shiz. I just took my car in friday for an alignment, and asked my SA about this exact problem. Mine has been doing this for like over a year. Anyway I was told that it was something(can't remember exactly what) in the transmission that need to be lubed up. Since it was just a sound and caused no harm to the trans. warrenty would not cover and it would be 550 bucks.

yes my '07 328i steptronic does this as well. Heard the same story from an independent repair shop: costly to fix and not necessarily a problem other than the odd noise.
also in DS, sometimes hear a similar noise if I lift off the gas and let it downshift into second. love the car but wish it didn't do this. |
