repair or new tyre
picked up my 1st puncture yesterday.rear passenger side.cant believe it
anyhows my dilemma is this.i have no tyre insurance for this kind of thing as i was looking into third party policies instead, added to this i just didnt think it would happen to me so soon, so i was in no rush to tell the truth.regret that now.i have a nail or something similar in the rear passenger tyre, its just to the right of centre.i knew nothing of it until the warning light came on.anyway my question is, is it repairable? bmw says no and the local tyre place say yes.. personally i think its best to get a new one, based on safety, although paying £375 3 weeks after getting my baby is very depressing. excuse me for not posting this on a different thread regarding punctures and all..just wanted to get some feedback before making my decision.thanks |

here is the regs mate for repairing tyres I would be listening to the tyre centre over a BMW service tech I have even had track day tyres repaired without any issues on track and running them down to slicks |

Edwardio, i had to do the same and paid £375 but it was not repairable Thankfully this is now confirmed by Aussies link at blackcircles. It is really down to personal choice whether you repair it or not, my own choice would be to replace it but that is just the safety advisor in me |

Unlucky fella. I'd be tempted with a repair if safe. It'll be about £20 and as long as you go to a reputable tyre centre like, err... Ok but as long it's in the mid section it'll be fine.
Had a 5mm bolt through my rear tyre of the Civic over 2 years ago and had it fixed at ATS Euromaster. Been on several trackdays with it. Forgot about it TBH. Plus if safety is a concern you'll have the net of the pressure monitor giving you plenty of time to stop! Then spend £375 on fuel and tax instead. That's my advice! |

Have it patched from the inside and it'll be as good as new. Don't let someone put a plug in there as they have been known to fall out.

ok here goes folks...i no longer have a puncture
got the tyre repaired as it was a small nail slap bang in the middle of the tyre..the guys at VRS coventry were brilliant..they specialize in performance motors and gave me an honest and professional answer to my problem... that answer was ...£20 to fix it mate . had the nail been towards the edge of the tyre then i would of had to purchase a new one at £370.i was very lucky in this case.. a big shout out to BLACKCIRCLES..VRS COVENTRY and AUSSIE IN LONDON for pointing me in the right direction..many thanks for all the other replies too.. |

i just saw this thread, i am glad you had it repaired instead of replacing it.
i am sure they used was something like this... if the puncture was in the middle of the tire it is 100% repairable and it is pretty much good as new if they used a plug/patch. the issue is when it is on the outer inch or so of the tread closer to the sidewall. i autoXed for a year on a plug and patch of that style with 0 issues. glad you got it fixed and didn't buy a new tire.
