ED - Best Way to Get from Airport to Hotel

I land in Munich in a couple of days and forgot to arrange how to get from Airport to Hotel. The hotel is near Welt. I have luggage and wife with me. I remember reading somewhere that there was a guy that could pick you up at the airport and take you to your hotel. Has anyone taken the train? or is pickup the only reasonable way?

Thank you.

quote from another post "Email him for the cost but it would have been less then a taxi and not much more then taking the train/subway if you are more then one person. His email addy is rolf.raffelsieper@yahoo.de"

My understanding was he does Airport to Welt though... you may want to confirm

Rolf is the man.
Otherwise you can take U-Bahn or S-Bahn, both accessible from airport from what I remember.

I have used Rolf for my two ED's. He charges 50 Euros and gives you some great tips along the way. If he can't schedule your date he works with Peter to help out as well. Both are very nice and speak English well.

I was there two weeks ago and took the S8 to the U3 and stayed at the Four Points, which is the same stop as the Welt.
It costs about 10 euros for a 1 day pass, which worked well for me as I was going downtown later in the day.
Which hotel are you staying at? It was an 8 min walk from the stop to the hotel for me.

there is a station right next to the welt...the train is definitely an option.
as indicated.. you can buy a 24 hour pass to ride anywhere for 10 euro or you can price the trip out for less if you want and pay the exact fare.

the train leaves from right inside the airport.

I did exact same thing. We purchased a group all day ticket good for up to 5 persons for 19 euros.

Rolf and his friend are on holiday until Sept so I guess it's train? The hotel's website says taxi is about 50 euros...that sounds cheap. I heard others say it was close to 100 euros.

If your hotel is anywhere near a train stop then I'd take the train, as there's a stop right at the Welt. The only caveat here is if you've got a lot of luggage, which is a hassle to drag around the train station. The Munich train system is a bit complicated, and it can take switching trains 2-3 times depending on where you're heading.

Cabs are a bit pricier compared to the states. I think I spent around 60euros to go from the Munich airport to my hotel by the Marienplatz. My hotel had a new 7-Series turbodiesel driver service that cost the same as a regular taxi, and we used that once I checked in, which was nice.

If you're traveling in Italy, be weary of the taxi's. The only time I really got screwed on my trip was taking a cab from the train station in Rome to my hotel. Driver told me the trip was $88euros; I gave him a $100euro bill and he took and left without giving me change! At the front desk when checking into the hotel the first thing the clerk asked me is how much the taxi charged us (he's obviously seen this before!) and he told me the ride should have been $35euros max!

LOL, sorry. Thanks for the warning. I also got taken in Rome. I sat at a restaraunt and asked how much it was to eat. After I finished the bill was double what they told me. Then they charged me for the table cloth, counted every slice of bread and I can't remember the rest.

Gotta love Italy!

THIS is Germany guys not Italy. Our taxi's charge fair prices. The Germans also have people going under cover and making sure Taxi's charge fair prices. The Zoll-Polizei even make spot inspections and test how the Taxi's meters work! Distance and Euros! Btw... in a recent survey Frankfurt was voted as having teh worst Taxi drivers! lol Munich's taxi drivers were judged better.

After a long flight I don't know if I would want to take the S-Bahn. Its safe and all... but lugging around your bags is not the way I would want to start off my ED vacation. I agree spend some euros on a taxi. I bet its under 50 euros from the Airport to the Welt/area. You could always ask the Taxi drver before hand, then decide to take a Taxi or the S-Bahn. I even wonder IF the Welt has some serivice like this?

Thank you. Just for clarification we were both talking about Italy not Germany. I will just spring for Taxi. Have suitcases, etc. After flying 16 hours not a good way to be lugging bags etc.

thanks.

Yes Rolf is on Holiday in Spain, however Peter is picking me up on the 7th and dropping us off at our hotel in Munich.

Unfortunately Rolf does the arrangements with Peter through Rolf's e-mail so it may not be possible to schedule with Peter until Rolf returns from Holiday, but you could try.

Not sure if I have an e-mail address for Peter but I will look, if I do I will post it here.

I recently spent almost a month hopping around Europe, mostly on trains. It was a piece of cake. I would save your 50 euros for goodies at BMW Welt! (I probably spent over 400 there one afternoon last month... There is alot of cool stuff to buy!). The U and S bahns work fine, and it is around 9 euro from the airport to downtown or Welt. Enjoy your new car, and remember you are breaking in a new BMW... You can't go fast enough to stay in the left lane for more than a few seconds! :-)
