Debadged but adhesive print left behind

Hi guys,

I decided the de-badge my E92 purely to make the rear end look cleaner. Everything came off nicely, however having inspected where the badge was really really closely, you can see an imprint of where the adhesive sat. I've polished the area but it doesn't budge.

It looks like a reaction with the laquer, however you can't feel a step or any form of roughness. I know for sure that the bootlid has never been resprayed or re-laquered so this is odd.

Is this normal when debadging BMW's or am i just unlucky? Anyone have any idea on what i can use to remove. Its not visible even when standing closely by it, only when looked at in an angle under artificial lighting but it bugs me.

What color is your car ?? I don't know if the UK has something called GOO GONE but that should take that adhesive/residue off

Its Silver.

I think you can get Goo Gone here but its not actually sticky residue its as if its etched onto the paintwork. The paintwork itself in that area is smooth as glass as I polished it using Scratch X (used a DA Polisher) but before this I claybar'd the area to ensure its clean.

I did the same with mine and just used loads of original T Cut (for metallic paint) until the bits/residue came off.

Mine too is Silver.

Hope this helps

Did the same with mine recently but used warm water and loosened the badges got an old credit card and came away easy. the residue I cleaned off with wd40, something tried and tested by others and have done it since, then a wash down.

Will be going over the car with a clay bar too

Have you tried:

Tar/adhesive remover?
Clay?
Scratch-X (or similar)?

That would be my plan of attack. Assuming you took the badges off carefully and havent damaged the paintwork underneath, one of those should shift the marks.

Looks like it is a imprint of the adhesive or something of when it was installed at the factory.

It just doesn't budge and I've used Farecla G3 compound, which is quite intense.

Guess I may have to re-badge

I definetely haven't removed the laquer or anything. To remove it I firstly heated each letter using a hairdryer. Then, I removed it each character using dental floss, and finally used some polish to remove the residue black adhesive. It came off pretty easy as the car is fairly new.

G3 with a machine polisher? It won't do anything like what it's supposed to by hand.

It just needs a quick buff with a machine polisher... 2 mins total.

If you dont have a machine polisher.. take it to someone who does... a quick machine polish over the boot edge and a generous coating of wax and she is gone.

It is quite common for cars of certain colours that have had the badges on for while... My Audi A4 Phantom Black was the same... machine polish and wax... all fixed
