Question for Atlanta Members

Need some feedback. How much vibration do you get from highways in the Atlanta area? I have had this irritating vibration driving on the highways around here. I don't just feel it in the steering wheel, it is the entire car. Particularly I75 southbound from Cumberland down to the city. I have had the wheels balanced twice and an alignment. Nothing has made it better. The techs say they feel nothing out of the ordinary. I swear the car did not feel this way when I bought it. Either the dealerships are missing something or the vibration is normal. It is to the point that I don't get any enjoyment driving the car on the highway. Any thoughts?

Does it happen only on I75, or do you get the vibe on other roads too? It could be just that part of the road.

How new are your tires? Sometimes if you have uneven tire wear you will experience vibration.....I had it happen on my Lexus when I was running some used tires. When I bought new tires the vibration went away. You also have to check for any tire bubbles or inner tread rips. But normally if your tires are worn to the point of vibration, you would feel it on any freeway.

Most big cities have some bad roads. I85 southbound seems worse to me that I75 southbound. I285 east or west of the city seems the worst of all. Ga400 seems better but it's concrete. 285, etc uses pavement that actually allows water to pass thru, it's really just a packed gravel. It's porous but rougher. It's worth it though when it's raining.

285 is horrible! I hate it. What's with those weird dips where the angle of the road changes abruptly from decline to incline?

I would hope there are no tire bubbles, as I would expect that to have been noticed on the balancing. The tires were new or close to new when I bought the car last November. I have started to wonder if the tires are part of the problem.

I agree I85 is not too good. I never drive on I285 so I have no comment. 400 is by far the best, but it is only the occasional trip that takes me that way. The car feels best on 400, so maybe the tires are particularly sensitive to the paving materials on I75 and I85. However, I would expect the car to be as smooth as butter on the newly paved portions of I75 and it is not. When they were paving it, I would drive on the new pavement and then switch lanes to the old pavement and there was virtually no difference.

I get it just about everywhere other than 400. It is least noticeable there, although it is still there.

You rocking the OEM runflats? I get a good bit on NVH on 285 w/ 19's and OEM RFT's.

I don't think the vibration is normal. I'm on 75-S/85-N going from Vinings to Buckhead all the time and I don't experience any vibration there. I'm also on 400N a lot and 285-W from Roswell to Vinings and it's all smooth highway driving. on surface streets I feel every bump from the crappy pavement, potholes, and metal plates but highway is all good.

my setup is 19 in BMW wheels, oem runflats, and oem sport suspension.

Yup. I am on the Bridgestone RFTs. Anyone think this might just be the tires? There are maybe 10k miles on them and this started happening maybe 5k miles ago.

That is my exact route back and forth to work. Thanks for the input.

This is my exact route as well. I am on BMW 19's, OEM RFT's, OEM sport suspension and I do get a good bit of NVH. I have an e92 though.

My RFT's are on their last 1/3 of life. Personally.. I think the OEM RFT's are crap. They are loud, poor handling and poor riding.
