335i - e90/e92.. that is the question!
Hey guys,
I'm kind of in a little bit of a dilemma. I'm looking to get a 335i (100%), but I can't decide on whether or not I should go for the e90 or the e92. Here's some additional info that's making it a tough decision. I recently got into an accident and need a car to drive. I'm currently driving my old skool 1989 190e so I can get from A to B, but I'm more about the journey then the destination if you know what I mean. e90 335i's are available, and I can get one within a few weeks if I commit to it 100% by the weekend, so let's just say by sometime in mid May. However I may have to compromise on what packages it comes with and whatnot. e92 335i's are almost impossible to get, so I'd just have to order an '08 and play the waiting game. I'd obviously be able to get exactly what I want if I choose to go this route. My Sales Rep said that if I order it now, it should be on the first shipment, if not then the second one for sure, and that I will have one on my driveway no later than October. If I had the choice of getting into either one tomorrow, I'd go with the e92, hands down. What sucks is that I don't know if I can wait 5 or 6 months for it. I'm seriously thinking of compromising on it and just getting the e90. I'm 21 and single. I don't really need the extra room in the backseats of the e90. I've never owned a 2-door and I feel like this is the best time for me. I guess what I'm trying to ask is for those of you in an e90 335i, do you wish you waited and got into an e92? For those of you e92 owners, do any of you regret your decision and wish you were in an e90? Or are there any of you out there in the same situation as I am by any chace? What would you guys do? |

Wait. Get the E92.
Or else you will be driving your E90 and 5 months down the road look at a E92 drive by and remind yourself again that you got the wrong car. You're single and apparently you can afford to get a BMW...so you might as well wait a few months to get the car you really want. |

E92 all the way--coupes are awesome for a young single guy like yourself--I am in the same situation, and have never run into something where I wish i had two more doors...

I'm only 25, so I'm not much older than you and know how you feel. But over the years of buying numerous things it's better to get EXACTLY what you want.
The sedan is great looking, but it wasn't what I wanted. I had planned on getting it because I didn't want to wait. Then I heard about the 335 coming out and figured I would. Then I waited even longer. So I'm rambling, but I'm gonna tell you to wait for the e92. If you have something that can get you by until then, why not? Good luck. |

Well, I did this exact thing.
I had pretty much decided back in November that I wanted the new 335i. I was interested in the 335i back in the summer of 06 when they came out though, but I had to wait until I got back from a 4 month business outing. In December I made my decision and decided to get the 335i. I wanted the Coupe. I was told 8-12 weeks on the Coupe. But they had just gotten in a shiny new Montego Blue 335i sedan with 3 miles on the odo. I was able to save a bit of money on the payment as they were dealing on the sedans, not much if at all on the coupe. I got the sedan. BUT, everytime I saw a Coupe, I kinda regretted getting the sedan. The sedan looks good, for sure, but the Coupe is just SWEET! Plus I already had 2 other sedans, made no sense to have a 3rd. So now I've "sold" my sedan (friend taking over the payments) and I have a Coupe on order! I don't know what the heck your dealer is telling you that you have to wait until October for the 2008's. Order it now and you can get a 2007 Coupe in mid June to early July. Who care about waiting an extra 3 months for a 2008, there are no changes to the 2008 car, so no reason to wait, just to pay more after they raise the price. If you get the sedan now, sure you'll have instant gratification, but may regret (as I did) not getting the Coupe. They are "essentially" the same car, but not exactly. The sedan is great, but the Coupe is a 1/2 step up in a few areas (rigidity, weight, weight distribution, center of gravity) and a full step up in looks. If you can wait an additional 2 1/2 months order the Coupe now and don't worry about possibly regretting it later. Wow, 21 and getting a 335i, must be nice. |

Don't cave to temptation.... Wait and get EXACTLY what you want. The wait'll suck, but the satisfaction of getting what you really wanted instead of whatever happens to show up will more than make up for it.
Rawhyde PS This way you won't have to try to convince yourself that the Chartruse sedan with the automatic and purple vinyl seats and balsa wood trim is really just as good as the Alpine White/Saddle/Burl Walnut 6MT coupe that you dreamt about for months and months |

E92 is nice, but for practicality I would have to take a E90
(E90 is also way cheaper here)

Good Things Come In Time, Im 24, And I Waited 3 Months For My E92. If Your Gona Spend 50 K On A Car, U Minus Well Wait And Have It The Way You Want It. Also Get The Active Steering, Boy Do I Wish I Can Go Back In Time So I Can Get The Active Steering. And Plus, The Wait Is The Best Part ( Now That I Look Back).

I have driven both, and I would have to say, as far as power delivery, and overall handling, they feel very much the same. But when driving the coupe, you feel lower, and more connected to the car, and the coupe has a more solid feel to it. e92 actually has a 25% stiffer frame according to BMW. The e92 also feels a bit more refined... kinda like they addressed a few of the e90's shortcomings with e92.
Also, I am 6'5" 250lbs, and I fit much better in the COUPE! the coupe is actually 2 inches longer than the sedan, and I can tell you that the driver seat definatly goes back further. In the sedan, I just cant seem to get comfortable, the seat just needs to go back a few more inches, but it doesnt, probably to keep enough room for the rear passanger. the e46 sedan had more legroom in my opinion. In the coupe, you can almost totally close the gap between the front and rear seats, and actually end up sitting really far back, which I love. Short story... get the coupe, unless you need 4 doors. I have been driving an e90 loaner for the last 3.5 weeks... and I want my coupe back. |

Buy what you want. A few months wait is nth compared to the few years u'd be driving it (well, I assumed the few years).
On the other hand, if you are buying the car outright then cool, only a few g's difference. For me among residual, interest rate, insurance and price, a coupe and a sedan was 25% a month difference for me so I opt for the sedan...... If money is no object i'd not haf went for the sedan, but the new Audi TT instead tho LOL. Time talks, money talks louder this time tho LOL. Just turns 22 and single here also LOL~! Gd luck |

I will tell you though. I have no children...and I was at the dealer and I had to choose the e92 or e90 right there (they were spec'd how I'd like)... ...I bought the e90...b/c, and this is my opinion...the e90, even though they're everywhere, looks more butch and hunkered down to me. Especially the from the rear 3/4 view (proof: it can take a more agressive offset). BUT...when I see an e92 floating down the road, I really like them too. If I'd bougth one, I still would look at the sedan and feel a bit of envy. Nuance-ish jibber jabber aside...back to the top...get the e92 if thats what tents your trousers. |

kinda similar situation... love coupes can still buy one... dont feel like waiting forever to get one... especially since competitors are out there with great 2dr models in 2008.
when i looked at both the coupe and sedan 335i , I only noticed these differences.... coupe had 2+2 seating sedan had 2+3 coupe's lines (to me) look exactly like the sedan ease of getting in the back seats compared to sedan tough but no big deal performance (springs, tires, coefficient of drag, etc) neglible different headlights on the coupe (no yellow) sedan has yellow on the edge other then that I didnt see any other differences besides increased insurance. when comparing the g35 2007 sedan to the g37 coupe thats a different story I would wait for the coupe between those two. summary... get the sedan if you need it within 6 weeks. ppp

Be patient...get what YOU want, not what the dealer has. You should be able to get a coupe long before this fall. Both cars are great but were I you, a coupe would be the only logical choice.

E92 absolutely. If you say you'd take the e92 hands down today then wait for it. When it finally comes you'll be so glad you did.
Don't get me wrong the E90's are ok and I know plenty of people love them, but between that and the Coupe, personally I think there's no comparison. It's a completely different car and the coupe is absolutely gorgeous |

honestly, the coupe makes all the difference in the world to me. I never for a second considered getting the sedan. I know I may get flamed for this; but I wish they left the sedan as the 330 and the coupe was the only 3-series to get the 335 badge. It's so beautiful and such a giant leap forward for BMW, it deserves it. My $ .02

Got to agree with most of the other comments. Go for the coupe and wait if that is the model you prefer.
I waited over 3 months for my E92 335 but got exactly what I wanted. |
