Cut off age for buying an E92 and modding.
Maybe I'm the only one that sees it this way, but what do you think....
I'm a tech for Comcast and I was pulled over at some small general store and post office here in the middle of nowhere in Pottersville, NJ when suddenly I look up and see an E92 335i burgundy modded with rims, drop, brembo brakes, and what seems to be more as there is a DINAN badge on the back. So I stick around to see who owns this beast. All I see around are 2 old guys talking and think to myself that it can't be them and I was waiting for the typical 20-34 yr old guy to come out and it turns out the owner was the older one of those 2 men. (60 years old AT LEAST) I'm sorry, but I think at a certain age you need to cut that out. If anything buy the coupe, but don't mod it. What do you guys think? Keep in mind this is MY opinion don't need to get flamed if YOU disagree. |

If modding makes you happy, then age should not matter.
If it makes you happy, you can't just stop doing it because you reach certain age. So, in my opinion, who cares about age.

There have a been a number of threads that touch on this topic. At the end of the day, I don't think there is a specific "cut off" for modding an e92...or any type of BMW for that matter. Car enthusiasts see no limitation -- whether that be by age, sex, socio-economic status or whatever the case. Mods are all about personalization and personal preference; they make the car unique. Perhaps the case can be made for the "type" of mods, researching them, or blowing money you don't have on questionable upgrades etc -- but that's a different discussion.
However, I will do a double-take when I see older indviduals in e92's with somewhat "ricey" mods. "Ricey" is subjective, of course. At the end of the day, modding is a fun (albeit expensive) hobby that can bring together 18 year olds and 60 year olds alike. Just my .02 cents.

My previous car was an 09 C6 Z51. You haven't seen "old guys" until you've been to a Corvette Show. Why does it bother you though? I guarantee I'll be into both video games and car modding when I'm 60. Heck people said I'd outgrow it when I was a teen. I'm 33 now and still going strong.

I think at that age you should go the Jay Leno way and buy a nice Porsche or something. That's definitely still cool. I've had this kind of discussion before with people and everyone seems to have my view on it. Funny part is I'll probably be 60 modding a M3 or something. Lol

I know this was about modding 335s, but in reality you would think a 55 year old would be fine with a 328/330, even a 335, but still gets an M3 with an exhaust and lowered. Some people just love modding, some don't. My 25 year old cousin owns an E550 and has left it stock for 3 years.

W T # !!! young whipper snappers these days stuck as I am with my age, over 50 now sheiish. I have been modding cars since I was 16, before I was even allowed to drive and have more all round experience than a bus load of dudes and home boys perhaps we should be asking the question are they to young to be trusted to work on cars that are far more sophisticated than the basic cars I started on "1964 Austin Mini Cooper" so basic even then I could have the engine out and back in and running before tea time
TOO old ? I DON'T THINK SO.

If I see a 335 modded like a 16 yr old modded it (red/black roundels, painted calipers, spring drop, replica everything, limo tint, 5 inch exhaust tips etc.), I won't think twice about it since it's a car that the parents got for him and he has little money to properly mod, yet needs to individualize it. We were all here once...I say have fun with it kid.
But if I see this same car and a 35 yr old steps out, ayyyy shame on you. You likely make more money now to afford better mods and should have developed a more refined taste in car modding as you matured. The expected standard of quality and taste of the mods on any given car will be much higher the older you are. |

I love it when I see older folks driving sport cars, modded at that. I always think that will be me, no way will you see me driving a Grand Marquis like most of them.
