Loose Gas Cap Warning then Service Engine Light

I receive a Loose Gas Cap Warning (triangle) then followed by a Service Engine Light. Could these two be related? The Service Engine Light won't go away. Should I just bring it to the dealer to have to looked at? The dealer is 50 miles away so I would like to avoid that trip if it's possible.

Yes.

If you get the gas cap warning light 3 times (i.e. you start your car 3 times without fixing the problem), the orange check engine light will turn on and will not shut itself off. Once it's on, you have to go to the dealer for a reset. This happened to me in the Spring (after my wife filled the car).

The SES light will turn itself off. The car runs a fuel system pressure check, which fails when the cap is loose or missing. When it fails, the SES indicator lights. The car requires a certain number of "pass" starts following the failed test before it shuts off the light again. Under normal conditions, this means driving the car about 4 or 5 days before the light turns itself off.

I concur. This just happened to me last week, and it eventually turned itself off. Not before I called the dealer though, and I was told that while it is somewhat model dependent, in most cases the SES light will go off after 17 to 18 normal starts.
