Seriously could you imagine the balance in that thing. Are they not getting close to the 500hp mark with those thing tuned? With a 4 banger? It's a cool car, I just dont see the point.

Yes the STi motors can hit 500hp on an E85 setup, but the turbo lag on those cars suck. We're spoiled with the quick spool up on the N54/55, but when those engines hit their meat zones hold on tight. The advantage I see in installing the S85 and coverting it to rear wheel only on the STi is being able to feather and control the throttle better than a high powered turbo lagged car. Especially in drifting competions. |

That's like a 335 owner ditching the N54, and its capability of reaching over 500hp, in favor of a more complicated V10 swap. I don't think you'd be calling it a waste, simply because an e90 is something of the norm. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And to many, that GC8 is a damn fine specimen. |

Balance would likely not be an issue. In the Subarus, the engine actually sits completely ahead of the center line of the front wheels (front "axle" if you wish). This is because the subaru is AWD, but incorporates a longitudinally mounted configuration like a RWD car. Instead of having an external transfer case, the front shafts exit the sides of the transmission itself. This makes it necessary to move both the transmission and engine extremely forward so that the CV shafts line up with the front hubs. If you were stuffing a V10 in there, you would have to push the engine and transmission much further back. I am willing to bet this is as balanced, if not better balanced than the stock Impreza configuration.
As far as it being a waste of an engine, I only agree with that if they pulled it out of a good BMW. I'm sure this was pulled out of a totaled car, so at least the engine isn't being plucked for misc. nuts & bolts in some redneck salvage yard.
