Anyone else notice the transmission tunnel near gas pedal gets very hot?
Was wearing shorts and my lower leg touched the trim on the side of the center console/transmission tunnel near the gas pedal and it was very hot. It was hot enough that I could just barely keep my hand on the area. Passenger side was cool to the touch.
Has anyone else noticed this? My car is a 2011 335i. |

I bet your car is pretty new. My car got very hot....as if there was a fire behind the firewall for the first 1000 miles of driving it. Even with AC on in the footwell, I'd feel just as much heat as I did AC. It will go away...I presume it has to do with the engine being new and just breaking in, whatever the cause may be.

Mine gets warm as well. I notice it in my ashtray area most because I leave my keys in there and after a long drive, they are hot.

I just noticed last night driving home that the trans tunnel where my knee rests was pretty hot to the touch (this is a '08 328i/6spd) . On the passenger side it was cool in the same area.
I was surprised as i was just driving normal @ 70mph on the freeway and hadn't noticed this before. I've had the car a few weeks and it has around 27k miles and i love driving it. I had a '95 525i for 5 years before getting the E90 and i wonder if a 'hot trans tunnel' is common in these cars. |

Mine does this too. I think it's from the heating system, there must be some heating pipes running to the rear console. Try setting the rear console on cold air only.

Is there any way to reduce the temperature of the tranny?
Fog light delete maybe? |

Yes, i checked and the rear temp dial was set to 'red' (heat) so i changed to 'blue' and will monitor the tunnel for heat.
Thanks for the tip about the heat piping in the trans tunnel ! |

Wouldn't do any good, Steptronic tranny's are cooled by the radiator in FRONT of the engine..if you were serious I'm sure you could adapt a M3/35is DCT cooler but thats a whole another story.
