Going from C63 to 328i....
Hey guys, I'm starting back with school and could use some extra cash so I'm trading in my C63 for a 328i coupe. I test drove one today expecting to be let down by the 230hp but it was actually pretty peppy and considering all my driving is city I have no need for 450hp. Its an 07 328i silver/black with nav/sport/premium CPO and they said they'd go down to 24k and give me 38k for my car. Does this sound like a decent deal? And also since I own my car outright would I receive any kind of tax refund on the difference trading in a car I paid $42k for a 24k car? It seems I should get the taxes on that 18k back but maybe not Anyways, thanks in advance for the help.

Personally I'd try and sell my car privately before doing a deal like that. That being said, I don't have any specific information as to how the tax difference works in your situation. If I were you, I'd contact DMV and ask them. Also, is the dealership going to cut you a check for 14k then?

You own the C63 outright and need the cash? Are you banking on the $14k on the trade. Anyways I'm sure if you look around I've seen 07 328 cpo's go for around 20k, I'd say 24k for a 335i with similar options though you might have to go to another state and such for the deals.

Sell the C63 privately, then hunt for a 328. When you are trading and purchasing from the same location, a few changes will be made (by them) here and there to make sure that they profit on both deals. A trade in/purchase is a moneymaker for them, not you. I'd say wash it up and post it on autotrader.

24k for an 07 328 seems overpriced

24 with CPO and if its low miles is not a bad deal. Its at a dealer so its gonna be a bit higher. If its a quality car with a good history then your gonig to be happier then getting a "CPO" car from "Bubba Joes European Car Emporium"!
These guys all think you can get a steal out there on a 328i cuz the 335i's don't hold great value and think/want theirs to do better. OF course, some will have you drive a 335 for similar money because they do. That being said you never said if the car was an auto Or steptronic? Look at the Kelly values on both cars and understand the premium a dealer will want to enact the transaction. Of course you can do better on your own but do you want to? Today I was driving my Daughters 07' mazda 6 with the regular non turbo 2.3 that is rated for 150hp. The car is also a MT. IN Automatic transmission the car is not so great but when you control the revs the car is kind of fun to drive. Same with the 328i. A REAL cpo car is about $2500 more than one that is not. Is 10% really worth it? What if you just took the $2500 and put it away "just incase"? How many miles will you put on the car a year? What else are you looking at? |

That sounds like a bad deal.. I traded my 07 335i with 60k miles a year ago for 20,500 on my wife's new car..

Absolutely sell the C63 privately and then haggle yourself a good deal on a CPO 328. You are talking about leaving literally thousands on the table with that trade in

Dont give your car to the dealer. Sell yourself.
As for getting taxes back....you must be joking!

private sales i am sure you can get a lot more money out of your car. 24k for a 328i seems very high. id pay no more than 20-21k. if you do this the money swing could be like 6-8k. dont get sucked into a stealership gaining profit out of your car at both ends. keep us posted. |

The reason my C63 is valued so low is because it has 53k miles. I've had it on autotrader for 3 weeks with no bites for $41,900. But if someone came along and offered me 40k i'd take it. So if I did that i'd have to turn around and pay taxes on the 24k bimmer. But if I traded I wouldn't pay taxes on the 24k which would equal almost 1700 so it's really like i'm getting 39,700 for the C. And the 328 has 40k miles...
