Thinking about selling the 335 and picking up an E55....

What do you all think?

I have jb4 catless DP's and DCI now and the car is a beast. Its just not exactly what im looking for..

I miss the sound of a V8 and the E55's with a pulley and tune are trapping 120-122...

Anyone have experience with these cars? I was looking at them before i picked this up but ran across a helllllaaaa deal on this car.

picked it up for $20,000 with 35k miles.

anyways, should i bite the bullet? Would YOU?

I was on the fence with this too. I chose the 335i because it is still fast and I can get 25+mpg (I commute to work every day).

It came down to mpg which is the first time I have ever bought a car because of that. yikes!!!

I did drive a few e55s and s55s. The s55 was too big for me but the e55 was insane!! the fastest car i have ever driven. HUGE power getting on the onramps. wow!

I still look at the E55s with envy but mpg and maintenance was the deal break.

yea man, maintenance. Imagine getting transmission work done on that car $$$$. Most of the E55's now are up there in mileage too.

The E55 is one of my all-time favorite cars. It was the first power sedan I really loved. I'd purchase one in a heartbeat. I still get excited when I spot one...and the ones I see out in public are usually in excellent condition.

Good luck with it my friend.

you found a deal for e55? if so how much?

maintenance is also crazy on that one... i think its the money issue unless you are good to go with that.

then e55 is just simply in another league in terms of speed.

I did the opposite, sold my cherry '03 E55 and bought the 335. In a straight line, there are very few cars that you would be able to destroy, but it is a heavy boulevard cruiser, and not much fun in the twisties. My car was mostly trouble free, but I caution you about buying one without a warranty. I had a couple of things to wrong, and warranty paid out close to $6000, over the course of a year, most of it was in labor charges.

With just an 80mm VRP TB, VRP Python CF intake tubes and upgraded heat exchanger, I was puting down 650 Ft Lbs. and 550 HP.

The E55 can be great or a maintenance whore. If it were me I'd wait for one that was driven by some big executive and maintained by Mercedes for it's single owner tenure. This would be the best bet against maintenance related issues. One thing's for sure...the heart and transmission are known to be able to handle a LOT of abuse and jsut keep on trucking. If you can afford the routine stuff, there are some very high mileage examples that are quite reliable. I hesitate to say bulletproof, as nothing is, but as far as a modern mercedes it's certainly one of the better ones around. The best part for you is they're basically what you spent on your 335i, cost wise. I've also read you can get 20 mpg+ with them on the highway with a light foot. If you can't tell...I'v also thought about them. That power is just insane, when you want it and kitten soft when you don't. Amamzing car
