Windshield Replacement- Safelite glass?
Is it safe to use Safelite's glass or should I ask them for OEM (Pilkington or Sekurit)? I have read there are differences but then other's say no. What is the truth!! And does anyone know what Safelite uses?

Can't explain maybe the tech was an idiot but the safeco glass didn't fit my car and the wind howled right through it. On my Nissan, the safeco glass fit perfectly.
It's really just a puppet show, if your insurance will pay for Saint Gobain Sekurit with a BMW logo (mine did), why go with anything else? It will pit just like the original did, however. They always F up the mirror's plastic housing and stretch the wire, it's a shame but look at it from the glass tech's perspective, it's not his car and he doesn't get paid enough to care. There's original glass with the BMW logo, premium glass, like Sekurit without BMW logo, and then there's aftermarket. 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of another. If you have the BMW logo, nobody can be sure you had a replacement done unless they look at how the plastic around the rearview is broken. |

not unless you want them to jack up your paint, have your frame rust out because it wasnt installed properly have have water leak all over your interior or behind your dash...
if safelite cant install properly on the most popular SUV, i wouldnt let them near my E90... good luck! ps. i had a windshield put in my car and had the dealer do it. some dealers will do the work themselves and not sub out the work, yes you have to call around, or at least find one that does not use safelite.

Same here: securit "solar shield" glass. Good install. Only issue was that, once again, the new glass was too soft, like the original.

Safelite replaced mine with OEE glass three years ago and I've had no issues. The glass they used, though, was not Safelite made. It is Sekurit glass with a BMW logo.

Since you paid for the insurance I would ask for OEM replacement.

i called safelite on my wifes nissan, and the glass they replaced is pilkington, just ask them when you call and specify that if they can replace it with pilkington, they did a great job on her car.

i heard safelite is hit or miss. My insurance company wouldnt pay for OEM glass on my other car when I had a crack in it. Safelite would not guarantee which glass they would use.
I took it to a professional glass shop and they obtained Sekurit glass without the bmw logo. 2 years later, I have no leaks and the glass is fine. If you want to minimize the chance of having any issues, I suggest taking it to a professional glass shop. |

When my windshield cracked I first called my insurance company. The insurance company wanted to send a safelite van with aftermarket glass. I then called the BMW dealer, who pointed me to a local glass shop they outsource to. The glass shop was able to negotiate OEM glass with my insurance company and performed the replacement perfectly. You have options!!! |

Safelite has done a good job replacing 2 of my cracked windshields. They usually offer lifetime warranty on their aftermarket windshields. Like others have said, it depends on the tech. The one who did mine had over 20 years of experience so I wasn't really worried.
