n55 Gains with CAI now with 16PSI Jb4 + FBO?

From what i've gathered, n55 doesn't see any, if at all, gains from a CAI over the stock airbox. The n54, if I recall, was in a similar scenario when tunes were beginning to surface. As tunes progressed and PSI increased, there was a threshold where a DCI showed notable gains over the stock airbox.

Are we at the point where, with 16PSI map on JB4 Stage 2 or similar + FBO + Meth, the stock airbox becomes a restriction and a CAI will show notable gains?

No, ask shiv! I am vehemently against replacing the stock airbox for the N55, they have shown little to no gains and have only caused problems. If you like the sound, then get it but that's about it. Shiv (procede developer) currently has the 370 WHP or so dyno record for the N55 and still uses stock airbox.

My bad Keik, I knew they were both very close - about 5 or so WHP of each other.

Stick to the stock box, get a drop in filter and call it a day...

I have proven on previous dynos that a cai adds about 10 HP (not the 17 HP the manufacturer claims) but it does add power, not much though.

Which intake are you running?
Injen or AFE?

Stock Air Box Air Flow Numbers and AFE N55 Intake

Stock air box has about 10% air flow restriction so any intake that is going to lower that number and provide volume will make power.

Taking the filter out completely improves that number by 2%, but in the real world you don't really want to be running around without an engine air filter.

The high-flow variety will generally improve that number by 1.5%, as tested here on the SuperFlow flow bench:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...&highlight=AFE

Intake does make power, although not at the numbers the manufacture claimed. Here is quote from our own thread:

"After the install the improved throttle response immediately noticed. As for power, I am not going to rely on my butt dyno even though I can feel the additional horse power.
Dyno Charts:

Power mods for the purple line are: Berk DP and full exhaust, ETS FMIC, HPA Drop-in and ER N55 charge pipe with JB3 at 4 lbs boost over stock

Power mods for the green line are: Berk DP and full exhaust, ETS FMIC, HPA Drop-in, ER N55 charge pipe and ETS FMIC with JB3 at 4 lbs boost over stock as a warm up run.

***ETS FMIC alone made 15hp and 9tq at the wheels(SuperFlo numbers, Dynojet numbers will be higher)***

Power mods for the blue line are: Berk DP and full exhaust, ETS FMIC, HPA Drop-in, ER N55 charge pipe and ETS FMIC at 4 lbs boost over stock

Power mods for the red line are: Berk DP and full exhaust, ETS FMIC, HPA Drop-in, ER N55 charge pipe and ETS FMIC at 4.5 lbs boost over stock

Power mods for the black line are: Berk DP and full exhaust, ETS FMIC, HPA Drop-in, ER N55 charge pipe and ETS FMIC at 5 lbs boost over stock

AFE N55 Intake Dyno chart is the second one. As you can see in the second graph, the blue line, which was dated 6-22-11 HPA4 was the best result from the first graph back on June 22. The black and red are the back to back runs with the AFE N55 Intake. Down low the AFE intake may have lost a few hp, but it more than made up for it starting around 4800-4900 rpm and all the way to the top, with a max gain of roughly 7.5 hp at the wheels.

***Dyno chart shown is with Dynojet corrected numbers***"
