Smile Wohoo, I'm 'down under'!

Hey mates (and astra ),

I'm in Australia for vacation at the moment. I'm here with my GF and we have been in Sydney for the last 2 days. Such a great place to be!
We are now in Melbourne and staying for another 4 days. Any suggestions for having a great time?

We are traveling the country for 4 more weeks (melbourne -> alice springs -> ayers rock -> cairns -> driving down east coast to brisbane -> home).

Absolutely lovely country and very nice and helpful people so far!

Cheers

Dante

In Melbourne make sure you visit the Italian restaurants on Lygon St in Carlton, along with checking out Chapel St in South Yarra, along with Acland & Fitzroy St's in St Kilda, they are always great spots for food and bars and so on, as is the marvellous Crown casino.
Also be sure to go do a few laps on the Albert Park Grand Prix track (it's free!).
And don't forget to go visit the bathrooms on level 35 of the sofitel melbourne, one of the best views in the city, they're even in the tourist guide.
If you've got time the great ocean road drive down to lorne is always beautiful, albeit a tad chilly down that way this time of the year.

Wow thanks, that was fast!

Those are some nice hints, we'll go for that. Great ocean road tour is already booked (on a bus! I sooo want my bimmer here!)

There are not too much bimmers out here, mostly X5 and E46. Seen few E90s though, one nice black sapphire 320i with M Package today in Melbourne.
Most cars here are Fords, Holdens and lots of riced out japanese cars (never seen that much Subarus in one spot!) The aussis seem to love fart-can-exhausts!

The great ocean road is tops, great cruising.
Well there is usually quite a few nice bimmers around the city.
Don't get me started on those tin-can-exhausts and rice rockets, i think too many people watched too much fast & the futurious, but forgot to actually get a decent engine in the car.

Welcome Dante,

If your here for the weekend why not take in an Australian rules football match. St Kilda play Carlton at the Telstra dome which is an amazing venue. Always good to experience some local "culture".

Play friday night and venue in town.

Nice hint, thanks.

We'll be returning late on friday from our great-ocean-road-trip and will be leaving on saturday morning really early, so no football for me!

We checked out most of these locations today. Extraordinary great call on the chapel street! Uncountable stores sporting my exact taste on clothes (was spending $$$ ), great food (gotta love 'urban burgers' ) and the best espresso in a long time (forgot the name, really small location next to a coffee specialities store).
We were also having a nice time in St. Kilda, even though a bit chilly on the seaside (we were checking out that little kiosk on the seabridge, cute!)

Sofitel is still on our list for tomorrow. Chillin with some Carlton draughts in the hotel lobby right now. Thanks for all the nice directions, very helpful!

Will keep you updated.

Cheers

As for Brisbane, you will love our tropical climate. Although a bit dry at the moment. More info about Brisbane can be found at http://www.ourbrisbane.com

But for now, another pitcher of James Boag's...
