Wireless radar detector???
I was at the my BMW service department today and i picked up a brochure of a wireless radar detector called the CALIBRE. so i asked the salesman and he told me the radar is added into ur cars dashboard and there is no wires and it looks like its factory made. He also said that the CALIBRE is soo good that it offeres to pay for every one of ur speeding tickets within the first year of using their product. Although the salesperson told me he that he did not have alot of knowledge about the CALIBRE he said that he has 1 customer who loves the CALIBRE radar detector that my dealership for his 7 series. I was wondering if this could be a new kind of radar detector which can be better then all the others ( V1, Passport). Does anyone know any information or past experience about the CALIBRE?
P.S the CALIBRE is 1400$ to install |

^ what he said.
If you want more protection, get a black car, black-housing headlights then smoke them with a spray paint, and get radar jammers. Add police scanner on top of that, you'll still get a speeding ticket.

You guys are missing the point. The main idea behind the K40 (Calibre) is for places where it is illegal to have a detector or if you want to keep it low-key. There is literally 1-2 small LED(s) in the dash that light(s) up and it looks like the low-gas light dot did on the older BMWs. There is almost no way to find/realize there is a detector without taking the car apart.

Escort radar provides the exact same thing for probably 1/3 the cost! Look at the picture on the left (2 custom LED lights built into the guages). The K40 is about 6-8 years outdated. The link is just a radar/laser DETECTOR.
http://www.escortradar.com/sr7.htm They also have a unit like above that is a detector and Laser JAMMER....still for less than 1/2 the cost of the K40. Here are some magazine reviews http://www.escortradar.com/reviews.htm And no, I don't work for/sell, etc. Escort products. I just have had one for almost 5 years now, and not one ticket using it. I used to get almost 2 a year before it.

The K40 has average radar detection and it failed to jam a single laser gun used by poilce today.
Get a Valentine One hardwired for the best radar/laser detector and for a laser jammer get the AL, LPP, or soon to be released Laser Interceptor. Radar/laser detectors: http://www.guysoflidar.com/march-200...ctor-test.html Laser Jammers: http://www.guysoflidar.com/march-200...mmer-test.html Spreadsheet of the radar/laser detector results: http://home.comcast.net/~ccaeric6/GOL_averages_MB5.htm |

K40 is nice and very applicable. However, for 1400, i don't think it's justified. Go with V1 instead. The k40 has hidden costs, front and rear radar, laser jammer, custom install, blah blah blah. Keep in mind, the K40 is not that conspicous either, it's a thick black license plate frame that's pretty obvious it's a radar detector, unless ofcourse you do custom install in which case, they break up that frame and hide it behind the grills.

If you want it hidden (if rd is illegal to have) the best option is STI driver installed remotely. Spectre detects all the other radar detectors. Vendors still talking about VG-2 are a decade late.

I have 3 K40s “Calibre” and 2 Bell 975Rs. The K40s are awesome, notably for their low false alert rate (a problem for the V1). I bought them on eBay for $800 and the install is a breeze thanks to the Bluetooth networking.
I heard V1 are good though, but they are not an option in Virginia, or in any case where the Police Officer will think that the possession of a radar detector is a clear sign of your intent to speed. I am working on an anti-Spectre retrofit kit for radar detectors. Shoot me a PM if you know where I might borrow a Spectre III for a couple of days? |

I'm sorry, but I'm still trying to figure out the best option if you want it hidden / integrated into your dashboard (hopefully for less than $1400)? Is this possible to do with the V1?
And what does "STI driver installed remotedly" mean? Thanks... |

Ok, I've figured out what an STI is (sorry, just started my investigation). Still wondering how a driver would install it themselves, though... everything I've seen seems like a BIG job I'd rather not do on a brand new BMW.

whatever i have it and love it works great and i have got nothing but compliments...all you see is 2 leds!!!!!!!! i keep the controller in the ashtray!!!! it is bomb and has 2 laser diffusers!!!! great for here in Chicago b/c all they use pretty much is the lidar instant laser gun!!! only ones with radar have a huge camera sticking out of the passenger glass!! radar is so inaccurate my cpd friends said they all pretty much have laser now!! caliber looks way way cleaner than a passport even if it is hardwired!!! my buddy has a passport and he drools over my calibre!!! it is just nice to have 2 leds and NOTHING else showing the modules are hidden front and rear except the front laser diffuser sits under where the license plate would go under the center grill and the radar sits behind the grill!!! it looks stellar!!!! it took them about 4-5 hours to install and i had it on when i took delivery!!!!! not after so dealer is still responsible!!!! and i paid around $1300 there is a belsonic that is cheaper but i didn't think it was as stealth...but it is a good one too and a lil cheaper!!!!
