Turbo Problem on new 320d

Hi Everyone...

I have just been told by my BMW dealer that the vibration noise emanating from the engine bay of my new 320d is a faulty dampner pulley on the Turbo unit. This requires a replacement of the entire Turbo unit. Does anyone have any similar experience?

Cheers

Hello

So nice to see fellow diesel drivers on the forum!!

How many km's does your car have on it?

Coulour, specs, extras?

...Now back to your question...
Touch wood for me, I've had over 4500 trouble free kilo's in my 320d. I picked it up in July. I do know of two poeple who had turbo problems in their first few hundred km's but I know of 15 or so poeple who have had trouble free motoring in their diesels - I believe the E46's had 10% combacks with turbo problems - apparently the E90 uses a different turbo which is supposed to give less problems.

Is BMW fixing it? What are they going to do?

You can contact me on broken1@e90post.com or via the forums so we can chat.

They are playing it safe these days and replacing things before they give problems

Its shouldnt be a long job since its just bolt off and bolt on

Better safe than sorry

My question is: Are these turbo problems BMW related, or is it just a thing that turbo gives hassles here on the highveld?

I remeber my father wanting a 1991 Audi Turbo (The 500SE shape) but didn't want to buy it because they gave so much hassles - although he drove a 1990 Audi 500E - apparently the turbo gave more sh1t. :

Its all makes, but because BMW is so high profile you hear about them more.

VW has a MUCH larger failure rate than BMW

Does it make sense to install a turbo timer?
