Question Finally got to test drive it!

Hi everyone,

I have been lurking around for a while (posting on e90/m3post) and became very interested in the Z4 ///M Coupe after seeing it in person in the New York Auto Show last year.

I test drove both the Honda S2000 and the Z4 Coupe back-to-back. I loved both of them. However, at the end the Z4 Coupe won-over. Adrenaline-rushing-pleasure driving that beast!

I currently drive a 2002 325xi 5-Speed (everything except Navigation) which I will be selling soon.

I finally asked my salesman to email me whatever the best he could do in terms of lease pricing and I just got the following information:

Code:
2007 BMW ///M Coupe (Massachusetts)

Lease: 36 Months, 15K miles/year

$50,100.00    Base
$   775.00    Destination
$   475.00    Metallic Paint
$ 2,850.00    Premium Package
$   500.00    Heated Seats
$ 1,800.00    Navigation
$ 1,000.00    Gas Guzzler Tax
$57,500.00    Total

$55,995.00    Capitalized Cost
   0.00190    Money Factor
$   823.11    Total Monthly Payment
$ 2,883.36 Amount due at start
I wanted to research how others have been doing with leasing - I had some pages bookmarked from z4um.com - but it's unfortunately down right now. I believe that I have seen better numbers with even lower down payment.

What do you guys think? I would like to hear what your comments and suggestions are.

Thanks!

Edit:
Looks like April Lease rates where: 36 Month – Residual 57% of MSRP – .00150 Base Rate
(from http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=198537)
Not sure if the May ones are out yet.

That sounds like a very high payment, but I dont have any real life numbers or experience on leasing a Z, just my 0.02cents that it sounds like a large payment for a 56k car

Yeah, that is high...I bought mine...granted for about 6000 less, but that's close to what i pay at 4.99%, leasing is supposed to be cheaper...

Good Lord, that seems high to me also. Wait him out and chew him down a little. Don't seem too desperate. Sometimes beauty can blind us, as I'm sure the car is a knockout. Good luck

Thanks guys. I even tried the configurator online (BMW USA website) and it gave me a cheaper price!

I made sure not to look desperate - the reality is my 325xi is great (especially in snow) - I just got promoted at work and have been always eyeing the M Coupe - so decided to give this one a shot.

I am going to just tell him that the numbers just way too high for a lease. Out of curiosity - how did everyone else do?

Thanks again everyone!

Goto a different dealer, and make sure to go in person, that way they take you more seriously as a buyer and will give you a better quote

@DaveO - I did go to the dealer when requested the numbers - but asked to send them via E-Mail as I tend to be very busy. I already purchased the car from them before (from the same Sales Person) - a nice guy really.

Today I got a call back from him today and confirmed that the numbers seemed high and will quickly send me revised numbers. Over the phone he mentioned the following:

Money Factor: 0.00150
Residual: 59%
Due at Signing: $2,883.36 (includes all fees, taxes and first month)
Monthly: $783.22/month

I still think the numbers are a little high - what do you guys think? I am still waiting for the "official" email before I talk to him again.

Thanks again guys for you comments!

PS: This is Wagner BMW in Shrewsbury, MA -- the other closest one is in Boston Herb Chambers which I really don't like from friend who purchased from them. Any other dealers people recommend around the area?

I've been to Herb, they seem like a bunch of dicks...but a friend of mine bought a used 325xi from them and seems pleased with the service...so i guess it's up to you

No matter how nice and friendly a dealer is, theres no reason to give him extra money for the product. In your case, the best thing to do is to goto a few different dealerships get some quotes on a similarly spec'd car and then go back to that dealer and show him the numbers from competitors

Personally, I still think it's a bit high. I mean, you're only paying around 38 dollars or so less per month then the first quote you showed us...big deal . Get them to do better then a lousy 38 dollars.

Be tough man! Walk in there with a cigar and prop your feet on his desk!

@fire-n-ice: Thanks. I feel the same way.

For reference I am curious as to what ballpark people are getting?

Why not just purchase, then it is yours and you do not have to worry about mileage etc.? If I remember correctly, for a 50K vehicle you can go out as far as 8-9 years and get a much lower payment than a lease, payoff early and come out ahead depending on your income situation.

My 2cents, which is probably worth even less.

Cheers!

I can tell you my friend is leasing an M Coupe for about 700$/mo with minimal downpayment (I think a few thousand)
