1M De-contents
Here's the stuff that normal BMWs have and the 1M doesn't:
*Tool kit in the trunk/boot *No lights in the sunvisors *No spare tire *one 12 volt outlet *fixed headlight washers It might be my car in that I had very few options. Anyone else notice "stuff not there?"

the 1M is a track car. Extra stuff like a spare tire, tool kit, etc just adds weight. Same thing applies to various interior options/accessories that the car lacks. If you want the little options/luxury, buy a 3/5/7 series....

What options did your car come with?
I guess the de-content quotient pulled the lights. Not that I care. I do like having the little tool kit. It's very handy when you need something quickly.

I took it all as humor. That's what I get for being cheap and getting no options.

I read somewhere here that part of the weight reduction was less insulation

I think that lighted visors are part of the CA package (w/lighting?). Anyway, I have them. I don't care about the weight of these extra options, I'm kind of getting tired of this beat down debate. The no spare tire issue...I thought was interesting on BMW's part, but I have a can of fit-a-flat in my car and a compressor...just in case. Tools? Eh, why would I need them if I'm not changing the tire?! Plus, we have BMW roadside assist. I did put a flashlight that can double as a flare in my car though...those are always handy, as I like to take a lot of trips to the mountains...and it's nice to have around corners etc. On the 12 Volt...I agree; it would be nice to have one somewhere. I use USB way more now-a-days...and I think the look of a 12V outlet kinda looks like....eh, an 8-track player of the 80's. It will eventually be a thing of the past. You can easily retro-fit one into your car (there are articles on how to do this if you really need it). And washers...we have these, right? Last edited by v1k0d3n; 10-12-2011 at 08:29 AM.. |

I'm actually curious to see what package the lighted visors are included in....hopefully premium.

The only thing I find truly ridiculous is the lack of a lighter in the traditional spot somewhere below the radio. For people that use radar detectors this is a necessity. Stringing the cord across the entire car is not an option. It’s in the way and looks terrible. This basically forces everyone with radar to hardwire or go buy a cordless unit. The second choice isn't an option and the first frankly sux. I'll be hardwiring and moving on but very poor attention to the details on that one -in my opinion-.

The 12 volt plug is a universal (though legacy) power connect. It'll be around for a while.

I agree the things the 1M does have outweigh the "missing" items.

Hmmm... what do I miss in my 1M?
I really have to think about that one. Actually and honestly... nothing. I havn't had this much fun in a car for a long, long time. I like the looks, I like the grunt, I like the way it handles (ok... with stock setup I do NOT like driving it on a racetrack, but that's not what I bought it for). The rest... everything I didn't like, I had changed. The seats, the shifter, the tyres, the missing rear spoiler lip and right now they're working on my exhaust. The minute details... I really don't care. If it breaks down, I call BMW. If a tyre goes, I call the automobile club and if someone wants to paint their face in my car, I'll be happy to explain how to open the door, get out and find the nearest ladies room. And the 12V sockets are in my car too, just as Artemis has described them. Leaves the headlight washers... mine wash. Were they supposed to do something else?
