ER Charge Pipe Installation + Review
My ER Chargepipe arrived in the mail today!
First of, i must say that they packaged it really well! For all the aftermarket parts i have bought, ER really took an extra amount of effort in their presentation. The workmanship and quality of the pipe is pretty good, it felt like christmas, opening a box filled with shiny stuff. The kit came with detailed instructions. Too detailed infact, and as i have never done any self installs (DIY) prior to this car, i got a little confused, however it is pretty straightforward. The biggest issue for me was that i had to remove my AFE intake, makes it alot easier having space around the CP. Fortunately for me, i managed to loosen and just lift the box up, allowing it to rest on the engine giving me space to work on the chargepipe. The hardest part was removing the chargepipe which was connected to the intercooler, the O-ring could not just be unscrewed and pulled off. Instead you had to squeeze a flat head screwdriver in, and twist to break the O-Ring. It took me almost half an hour before it finally came off. The C-Clip was the easiest to get off BMW. Here are the pipes side by side. Next you just need to transfer the TMAP Receiver as well as a couple of screws over from the old CP on to the new. Sorry i don't have pictures of that, but anyway here is it finally installed. All in all i have to say the install wasn't too difficult, but you really have to get your hands dirty. ER said it was a very easy install, on a scale of 1(easiest) to 5(hardest) they rated it as 1, but i don't think its a 1? Yes there are just a few bolts and clips, but you have to dismantle other parts of the engine bay, and for that i give it a 2.5/5. Performance: No butt HP gains, but my car is ALOT more responsive, im not sure if it is related, but i can hear the turbo spool even louder, and earlier in the revv range. For $300 i think it is definitely a good investment. For all the other mods you might have done to the car, this makes your BMW worry free again! Just wanna say thanks to Mike and N54 tuning for hooking me up. Great service! |

Nice! That will be my next mod- looks as if I may be able to do it myself which is a plus. Why not just remove the entire intake system up top to give yourself more room? The only hard part about it is the three wires on grommets in the back/rear.
Thanks for posting! |

Definitely going to pick this up after I get my car back from MAC. Since I'm car inept, definitely going to go to Matt to get this installed.

Why are the meth bungs right behind each other? Doesn't that screw up the spray pattern if the rear one is firing right into the front one?

Sorry, not to talk down at all, I have a lot of respect for Vishnu's work.. I mean it fits, but a.) uses standard worm-drive clamps everywhere and b.) takes quite a lot of finagling with the silicone fittings, you can get it to work but you really have to muscle it in to place. It shouldn't be that hard and I can't say I feel really secure with it. Hopefully no trouble but if so, this is where I'm coming.
